I was traveling North on hwy I-81 in state of Virginia with the cruise control set on 70 mph which is the speed limit. I was traveling in line with the traffic I.e., several vehicles in front of me, several vehicles behind me, and several semi-trucks on my right lane, all as a group, no one passing anyone, but in close proximity to each other, ie., the vehicle in front of me was approximately 4 to 5 vehicle spaces in front of me, the ones to my rear were approximately 2 to 3 vehicle spaces, and the semi-trucks were right in line with me one behind the others in close proximity to each other. I was stopped by a state trooper who stated that I was traveling at 85 mph in a 70 mph zone and wanted to know if there was a reason for that. I explained that I had no reason since I had my cruise control on 70 mph. He gave me a traffic citation for reckless driving. Upon my return to Kentucky, I took my vehicle in to my dealer to have the speedometer and cruise control checked. My dealer's technician could not replicate the problem. They ran a 23 point check (whatever that means) and could not find anything wrong. I believe that there is a problem between the cruise control and the speedometer. Either they are not synchronized or there is a problem with an electronic sensor or something like that. I would like somebody knowledgeable with problems of this nature to investigate to see what caused this. I will not use the cruise control again until someone guarantees to me that there is absolutely no problem here.
