Dakota Sport 4x4 3.9L V6

First AIR BAG light came on then 2 weeks later CHK ENG light comes on and off under all different conditions and truck runs rough and backfires, even stalls. But clears up until one day truck won't run or start. NO BUS is indicated in odometer and gear select indicator does not appear. Shop says no PCM communication. $530.00 part and $400.00 labor plus have to tow to dealer and have programmed. Heard of others with similar problems only to find out was not PCM problem after-all.
