CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

This has happened about 6 or 7 times. I start my Dart and it will not shift into gear. It the clutch will be all the way to the floor and it still will not shift. It has happened a few times when I was driving. It scared me I was glad I was not on a busy street or going really fast. It is also stalling when I have done nothing to make it stall. It will be running and then nothing. It has been scary when this happens. I drive for work and with out my car I can not earn a living. So I have made it work. I am getting worried that something is wrong with my car.

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Dart. While attempting to drive the vehicle, it failed to start and the transmission service and engine warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred twice. In addition, while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle made an engine start noise and then accelerated without warning. The contact depressed the brake pedal to slow down the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery and the transmission cable failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that once the dealer diagnosed the failure, they would determine if the vehicle was covered by the warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

Since I purchased the vehicle, while driving on freeways (or any other road) the vehicle has slipped into neutral and lost the ability to accelerate over 20 times. The check engine light comes on and says service transmission. Auto stick disabled. I have taken it multiple times to the dealership and they have made multiple repairs, including recalls and a complete transmission replacement. Still the problem exists and the company does not seem to care that my life and the life of my family is in danger driving this vehicle. Please help. I am listing the most recent date this happened below as I cannot list multiple dates there. The vehicle is currently at the service department again for the same problem. This first happened in 2013 and has been back and forth to the shop ever since.

In August 2016 my clutch pedal stuck to the floor on the 405 freeway in cagoing 65mph. This causing no gear change and control over vehicle, Chrysler repaired the master cylinder under the power train warranty. (they said this wouldn't happen again and the car was safe) well the clutch did fail on the way to vegas on the freeway going 65mph again I lost control of the gears and the clutch stuck to the floor. Chrysler told me it was a worn out clutch and they wouldn't replace the parts or buy back the car under lemon law. I had an independent mechanic look at the car in glendora ca. He said it's not a worn out clutch, but the clutch has broken due to a leaking slave cylinder leaking over the components. This is a manufacturer defect. And has had various court cases against them due to this issue. The car is a so unsafe and a time bomb. I have just had a new born baby and do not want her anywhere near this car.

In March of 2016 I was in a home depot parking lot, turned my vehicle on, and placed the vehicle in drive. I maintained my foot on the break and did not release. I then released the break and the vehicle began to accelerate very fast without pushing the accelerator, almost colliding into a family of 5 walking through the parking lot. Even after pushing on the break the vehicle kept accelerating until I moved the vehicle to the neutral position. The vehicle then kept accelerating until approximately 7000 RPM's then stopped. I took the vehicle to the Dodge dealership where the mechanic told me the car also accelerated on him even though he did not push on the accelerator.

I already had my Dart serviced for the transmission recall a year ago. The issue came back. While I was on the interstate the engine light came on and the "service transmission" warning came on. The car then proceeded to shift to neutral while I was going 70mph+. this happened every time I got on the interstate before the dealership was able to service it. After the transmission was serviced, a week later I had a similar experience on the interstate. The pedal was not working so the car slowed down, then it would catch and speed back up again. It continued to do this. My car is currently being serviced for the 3rd time for the transmission in one year.

I was driving my car when it slip into neutral and would not move out of neutral leaving me stranded on the road. I looked up online to find out any information on how to get it out of neutral and find complaints about the same thing happening to other vehicles and found recall number R42. I contacted 1-800-853-1403 on 2/1/17 and gave them the information and they provide a tow to take my car to the Chrysler dealership. On 2/2/17 I receive call from someone in service and told me that he looked up my VIN number and it was not under recall, but only for the brakes that was under recall. I tried to explain that even though my VIN is not pulling up as one of the effected cars, they should still fix my car due to me having the same problem. I was told that they would not fix it. On 2/2/17, [xxx] in service said that the recall was not for 1.4 engines. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Stopped on hwy road side to read and send a text message. While attempting to place car in park. My 2013 Dodge Dart locked in neutral and would not move out of neutral. I was unable to get the key out of ignition due to the car being in neutral leaving my dashlights on all night after towing to dealership.. I notice there is a recall for certain Dodge Darts for 2013 for this very issue, I notice my VIN # does not appear in the recall even though it has the very same issue appears to happen to my model. I was stranded in the middle of no where waiting for help to arrived, I hope this warns other of the issue.

There has been a recall on my vehicle for about 2 years. I have been contacting the dealer (and manufacturerer) since I was notified and they still "don't have the part" and I continue to be on the "call list". in fact I broke down (due to the transmission failure) in another state, paid for a rental the entire week it took to replace the transmission (before the recall) and get home to work. I ended up laying out over $800 for the rental while they repaired their error. The transmission failed and kept revving up the engine and the clutch did not engage or it slipped. Racing the engine and not propelling the car when the gas was stepped on.the manufacturer refused to acknowledge the recall and pay for the rental. Anyway I am driving an unsafe vehicle for over a year and a half getting no repair from local companies (the company called for another local dealer to have the part and never found one).

January 15, 2017 I parked my Dodge Dart in the parking lot. Upon my departure I was able to turn the ignition and drive around the bend to pick up passengers. Once I came to a complete stop my engine shut off, all service lights came on (mirror warning lights, check engine lights, dashboard shift indicator stuck on "drive" rather than "parked") and no power steering. The vehicle was in 'park' but continued to roll backwards. I was in a full parking lot at the beach on a holiday. Multiple people where lined up behind my car to park/ pick up their passengers. Had I not have to pick up passengers I would have ended up on a hill (the first turn out of the parking lot is a fairly steep incline) most likely causing a horrific accident. I believe the issue is the power train/ shifter cables. I have not felt safe in this car since ive bought. Nor has it been reliable. Brought brand new and I have been to the car dealership multiple times for recalls/ check engine lights and oil changes.
