Horrible, acidic (ie battery acid?) smell entering the cabin through the A/C vents while driving with the vent on, sunroof open, cool outside temperatures. Similar odor under the hood in the vicinity of the battery. Turning on the climate control to automatic seems to alleviate much of the smell in the cabin, but not under the hood. Climate control on causes the electric engine fan to run constantly which probably moves the air enough to prevent the odor from entering the cabin. Dealer claimed the ducts were dirty and moldy and used a product called "Frigi Clean" which lasted for about 20 minutes of driving. Star case opened with Chrysler and their first suggestion was for the dealer to replace the battery. Dealer claims the battery is okay and now they claim there might be a crack in the a/c accumulator??? Huh? this is 2015, who ever heard of such nonsense.
Car has been the shop for a week, had 890 miles showing on the odometer when it went in, God knows how many it shows now. Too many great cars out there to purchase and I chose a Dodge! But, not having the car for a week and my unexplained headaches have disappeared. I guess Chrysler is trying to poison buyers so they won't complain about their inferior product! Bottom line, Italian cars should stay in Italy and not on American roads. They are potentially death traps.
Update from Oct 9, 2015: Since last report, Dart has had numerous electrical problems, including total power loss while driving and transmission going into neutral while driving but engine keeps running (there is a recall for this per DOT). I hired an attorney & nearing the final process to get manufacturer (FCA) to repurchase car and refund all expenses. I hope I'm in the home stretch and recommend nobody purchase a Chrysler product. They truly are garbage.
