Grand Caravan 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 180,150 miles

This is the fourth transmission that I had to have rebuild. 3.3L V6 and transmission are not compatible. 3.3L V6 was used in trucks and transmission was used in cars. Plus it is the same vinyl bushing that keeps failing. The bushing could be replace with a brass bushing but causes the warranty to be voided. The first failure came at around 68K, the second happen at 102K. The third occur at 143K and the fourth at 180K. My sons has a grand caravan 1999 but it has the 3.0L V6 with 180K and has never had the transmission fail.

Grand Caravan SE 3.3L

We had not had this car that long for it to have transmission problems. I know it cost somewhere in the range of $2500-$3000 and we took it to a highly recommended tranny shop but we had to take it back in about 2-3x to get it running right.

Overall, we still have this vehicle and its been ~Okay~. Its been good to us overall, as long as we treat it really gently.....but I was not happy to see recalls on it, and most likely, am trying NOT to buy dodge again. I think they do not care enough about safety.

A ticking sound was coming from the front of the car. Just bought this vehicle, had not paid one payment yet, and we had to replace the tranny...
