Grand Caravan 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

07 Grand Caravan 3.8L bought used spring ’15… 131K miles. 1st occurrence: While driving on freeway on a hot day the car stalled without warning. Able to pull to shoulder. On attempted restarts car would fire for a couple of seconds and quit. Tried other key: no help. After about 7 or 8 attempts the car would not crank and solenoid clicked. Towed home. Car set codes p0339 and p0344(intermittent crank and cam sensor). Charged battery . Replaced both sensors (Standard/Borg-Warner). Car initially would not start, then mysteriously fired up and ran fine. OK for about a month. Battery tested OK (Auto Zone brand) Charging voltage good when running.

Not related to having just (over)filled gas tank. (Much on internet about this: bad valve in tank allows evap to flood)

2nd occurrence. Once again driving on highway hot day. Once again stalled without warning. Same symptoms on attempted restart. Called for tow truck. After waiting about 15 minutes, car restarted, ran about 4 miles and stalled again. Managed to pull into convenience store. Attempted four or five restarts, then battery appeared to run down. Headlights would dim on start attempt. Got jumped. After a while the car started again but ran roughly on acceleration. Once again set same codes. At this point I noticed some electrical anomalies. Upon key on, the temp, fuel, and tach gauges would peg high and then fall back to normal. The power windows began to operate without the key on. Tow truck arrived and got it home. Car restarted in garage.

Replaced both sensors again and battery (suspected intermittent open). 3rd occurrence on test drive got about 5 miles and onto highway. Once again stalled. This time restarted, turned around and got about 2 miles then quit again. This time no restart( same 2-3 seconds). This time set code p0344 only(cam sensor intermittent). Car restarted later back in shop and sounds OK. Can’t trust it and am leaving it parked for now.

Research on the internet has got me thinking about the TIPM which seems to be suspect when there are mysterious electrical “possessions” described. The problem seems to be not unusual and there are even class action suits in the works but as of now are not including this year model even though it is often mentioned

Grand Caravan 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,000 miles

Bought new. Three years after had it converted with handicap ramp out of back hatch. The back hatch, most of the time, will come back down when opened remotely. The first electrical problem was two years after purchase the lock on the passenger side sliding door quit working. then two years later the passenger side electric window would not operate from the passenger side. Then a little later the passenger cabin light would not work, Then it started working but the driver side stopped working. Then last month the windshield wipers would not come on, I taped the lever to see if the washer worked and all started working again. Today nothing from that switch works.

Each of these problems seem to come and go so I would say there is an electrical ghost in the system which could one day burn the vehicle to the ground. I can't afford to have a mechanic troubleshoot the electrical problems and can't afford to replace a handicap van so, I'll just keep working on it.

Grand Caravan

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

Intermittent electrical 'glitch' usually happening when we accelerate. Even the headlights will flash along with the panel lights. Radio will turn off, then come right back on again. In addition today, the van lurched forward--unable to accelerate-when the 'glitch' happened. I was at a stop sign, accelerating onto an access road.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

Driving along and out of the blue everything electrical on the inside goes out for a second along with a "ding" sound like when you leave your lights on, but only one ding. Everything comes right back on but it does leave you wondering what the deal is. We had it checked at the dealer but they couldn't get it to do it for them so couldn't find the problem. If anyone had the same problem and figured out a solution I would love to hear about it. Thanks!
