Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

My 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan had a stutter when it would downshift and then the same thing when going into 4th gear. The dealer said there was an update to be made, so they replaced the torque converter and reprogrammed the ECM. The problem has not reoccurred since. The van now has 36,000 miles on it.

When I purchased the van, I didn't notice the problem for a couple of weeks. The problem is when the van slows to a stop. It is not down shifting correctly. It does not come to a smooth stop. As the one complaint states - "it shudders" I have taken it in to the dealership, they have put it on the computer, reprogrammed it - and nothing has changed. They stated that the computer would adjust to my mode of driving and that this would take care of it. During the winter, I don't notice the problem quite as much. But, on warm days the problem comes back. As it was stated in one of the other complaints, it doesn't happen all the time. I have found out that it occurs more in short runs when you don't shift through all the gears to high gear. If I am driving short distances - block to block - it happens more frequently. Does anyone have a solution?

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,090 miles

I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICEL BACK TO DEALER TWO TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM . THE FIRST TIME THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT PROGRAMMED PROPERLY AND THEY CLAIM THEY REPROGRAMMED IT. THE PROBLEM THEN STOPPED. A WEEK LATER THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN, SO I BROUGH THE VEHICLE BACK. THEY TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SUPPOSE TO DOWN SHIFT AS IT WAS. MY PROBLEM IS THAT IT DID NOT DO IT WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND DID NOT DO IT WHEN WE BROUGHT IT IN THE FIRST TIME. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO DOES NOT DO IT EVERYTIME YOU COME TO A STOP. I HAVE GONE OUT AND TEST DROVE THE SOME VEHICLE AT 2 DIFFERENT VEHICLES AND THEY DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WHEN DOWNSHIFTING.
