problem #1

Dec 142013

Grand Caravan DK SL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 48,000 miles

Doors and rear hatch opens on their own while parked and in motion. I never know when it will happen. Happens a lot at grocery store. I lock the car and go in the store, come out about a hour later and either the side doors are open or the rear hatch has opened or all three. Other times I lock the vehicle and go to bed and wake up in the morning and find 1,2,or all three doors have opened during the night.

My son drove me to the county recorders office and when we parked he locked the doors and we went inside for about a half hour and when we came out my son said what the hell is this about? The rear hatch was going up and down, up and down. My son hit the lock button on the remote when it went down but it kept going. He raised the hood and opened the fuse box and pulled the fuse to the rear hatch to make it stop and it stopped and latched. We then drove thirty miles to the dealership and my son explained the problem and gave them the fuse. He called my daughter in-law to come pick us up and left the van in service.

They called the next day and said they could not duplicate the problem and until they could the problem can't be fixed. Went back to the dealership today 6/24/2013 to talk to them again. My son used his Dodge Ram P/U truck to take us and we left the van home cause we are not sure we should drive as it could be dangerous. They suggested we bring the Van back and have a new key programmed for $170.00. We said we would try that. When I got home my neighbor next door came over and told us while she was in her yard she saw the rear hatch open and knowing we were gone she went over and closed the rear hatch for us.

So forget spending the money on a new key because we had both keys in my purse while we were at the dealership 25 miles away! Go figure!
