I am a College student and I prefer trucks. I bought this truck because it runs great. The only problem with this truck is the fact that the dash is cracked. There are a lot of cracks that go all the way across the dash. When you drive the dash shakes!!! This needs to be taken care of.

Dash started cracking several months ago, this morning on the way to work, a huge chuck of the dash broke off, and now i have a hug hole in my dash. I have been researching this problem ever since i first started seeing cracks months back, and have seen ALOT of people with the same problem all over the united states. I doubt Dodge will do anything about it, i will be going to the dealership and get pricing on a full replacement.

I love Dodge, but this really sucks.

Been a Dodge man for the last 20yrs never had much of a problem till now, thought i was the only one with this problem now i know there are a he_ _ of a lot of us that are being Screwed by Dodge because of their cheap crap of a dash.Dodge went cheap and used a low grade of plastic in their Dodge Rams, they should be held accountable, hate to say it but lets file a lawsuit against them.

Ram 1500 Laramie SLT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,000 miles

I have a dashboard that started cracking in 2006, as time went on, it started breaking off pieces, I had to have it duct taped together like a jigsaw puzzle in 2008, by the end of 2008 I don't have much of a dashboard and it has caved in badly, now in 2009 cracks are running down the front face plate where a/c vents are and steering wheel and pulling away from last remnants of dash. I am searching for other truck owners with same issues and what to do, this is bad, I have been quoted over $900.00 for this repair. Can't afford repair, I am concerned this collapse in dashboard may bring on other dangers.

I bought two new dodge trucks in the year 2001. A dodge 2001 ram 1500 and a doge 3500 diesel that was also a 2001 . Around the year 2004 on both trucks the dash started falling apart. By 2005 almost all the wires in the dash were exposed and I have been told that I have to be concerned with the vehicles having a fire starting because the exposed wires in the dash can become brittle and cause a short. The dodge dealer refuses to take care of the problem and because of that I will never buy a dodge anything ever again.

I purchased the truck used and it had a couple of cracks in it when I got it.The dash has so many cracks in it now that pieces of the dash pop out when ever I hit a pot hole or railroad tracks. This is one of the cheapest, poorest excuses for a dash I have ever seen.Everyone I know that has a Dodge truck or van has the same problem. I think Dodge should recall such a poorly constructed dash.

Ram 1500 ST 5.2L V8

  • Manual transmission
  • 62,000 miles

First truck I have owned long enough to have it paid off. I have worked hard to keep it in good looking and mechanical condition. The dash has not so much as had a piece of paper laid on it and it just decided to self destruct. If Dodge will not replace them they should at the very least, offer a replacement with a substantial guarantee and for a reasonable price. I will say it is the best truck I have ever owned mechanically. It's unfortunate that one highly visible defective part cannot be replaced without the fear of the replacement failing.

I am surprised that no aftermarket companies have jumped at the opportunity to resolve a problem that Dodge is incapable or unwilling to address.

Sincerely Disappointed.

Here I was thinking I was the only one with this problem! About six months ago I noticed my dashboard was cracking. At a fairly quick rate, the cracking spread across the dash and this last weekend (4/18/2009) my dash collapsed under the weight of a paperback book! Now I have a huge hole (1' wide x 8" deep) and numerous other sections ready to fall in. Looking closer at the pieces it is readily apparent that the plastic used in the dash is way too thin and was poorly designed (or designed to only last a few years before replacement). A recall is definitely warranted here.

I am obviously not alone with this cracked dash problem. Seems to be hundreds, if not thousands of Dodge Rams with this problem.

I read that Chrysler was considering some type of customer relief back in 2007 but cannot find any current information regarding a solution?

Thanks

Just the other day I parked my truck and went in the store, and when I came out a while later, I noticed the dash fell in. I got a hold of the recall people and they said they will investigate it. The recall people said for me to tell everyone that had this problem to call them and file a complaint with them. So pass this on to everyone you know, because the more people that file a complaint, the bigger the issue will seem to Dodge, and they will have to issue a recall and fix it.

I noticed my dash was cracking, but it was not a 3.0 on the Richter scale, it was an 8.0 and I think it was following the San Andreas fault line. I literally had black holes in it where you could fall through it and be absorbed! Naturally, Dodge concluded that it was an anomaly and stated it was in the sun too much! I have been reading the same from unlimited frustrated owners. Based on my experience, I will not buy another Dodge and it is sad that an entity of this size will soon fail because of it's own ineptitude....

It sure was disturbing to find that the dealership wanted several hundred dollars for this obviously low quality part. Fortunately I was able to find one at a salvage yard for a fraction of the cost ($60).

On Nov. of 08 I notice 2 cracks in dashboard of my ram 1500 2001 truck I wasn't very happy about it. Went on the internet to see if there was some way to remedy the problem only finding that there are others with the same problem . I gave Chrysler a call to complain in which they told me to go a dealer and see what they say. Showed the Service manager the 2 cracks . He noted the cracks and said he get back to me after speaking to the Chrysler Service Rep. I did not hear from them . 6months have gone by. Now I have 3 cracks in the dash Went back to the dealer, said the manager I had spoken to no longer was with them - that was a lie. I could see the the person in back. Well anyway they took pictures & got back to me within 2 days, told me it was not under warranty therefore if I wanted to have it fixed, I would have pay for it. I Called Chrysler again and they said they couldn't do anything.

I noticed cracks in my dash so I told my dad, since we both have a Dodge Ram 1500 (mine is a 2001, his is a 1994) we took them to the dealer. There is a recall on mine but the dealer wants me to pay $300 for the installation. Now correct me if I am wrong but a recall is due to the manufacturers f*ck up, why should I have to pay? (my dad had no recall, he had to glue his back together)
