Takata recall. The contact and the deceased driver owned a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving at a high rate of speed, another vehicle crashed into the driver side of the contact's vehicle. The driver lost control and crashed head on into a utility pole. The air bags did not deploy. The driver was fatally injured from the impact of the crash and the failure of the air bags. A police report was filed. The insurance company diagnosed that the location of the impact was not near the sensor, which was why the air bags did not deploy. The contact was uncertain as to whether an independent source investigated the failure or the manufacturer. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The contact recently received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15V312000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. I have had several notices of the airbag recall R26 and am told the replacement bags are still not available 1 year after the notice. My local dealer keeps telling me to "check back" in a couple of months. I am afraid a passenger will be injured in the event of a deployment. I took my truck to the dealer today after being told that they had the replacement parts, but was turned away again.
