While driving at approximately 65 mph engine overheated, causing "head gasket" to go out. Took to dealership and told consumer that cooling fan was operating, but could not confirm whether or not fan was working at time of incident. There was a recall 00V367000 regarding the cooling fan. Consumer complaint was in regard to damage caused by inoperable fan. Also, there was a head gasket recall but this vehicle was not included due to VIN number.

Head gasket blewout, causing vehicle to overheat and smoke. There were no signs or warning light indicator. Vehicle had required large amounts of antifreeze and oil. Consumer received a recall on cooling fan. Questioned dealer if recall had anythng to do with gasket blowing. Dealer said they were not aware of any relationship. The vehicle would not start due to spark plug assembly failure and engine head gaskets failure.

On June 5, 1999 I was driving my Ford Contour and the engine just stopped. I had my car towed to al serra Ford in alpharetta to see what was wrong. The Ford mechanic informed me that head gasket had blown and that the engine needed to be replaced. I have called and written to Ford Motor Co. Since I heard they did have a problem with this and get no response. The consumer action center in atlanta suggested I speak to you.

I hvae had problems ever since I first purchased the car 8 months ago, starting with engine failure due to a missing vacuum cap. Next, I encountered a drive belt that was on the verge of breaking, it was severly cracked. The brake calipers were sticking causing major veering when stopping at speeds over 40, and this also resulted in warping my rotors. Also, for the first 7 months, my check engine light would come on periodically, but after a couple of fuel injector cleaners, it was much better. Then, on a cross country trip, the car's idle worsened, its power decreased, at a stop, the car would start having a convulsion like feel and sound, from a stop, it wouldn't accelerate until a click in the engine could be heard. Then the acceleration was very lurching and sputtery. After a diagnostic, I was informed that it was not the original engine. The mechanics sent me to the dealer who found the supposed cause of the problem. $400 later, my air mass sensor was replaced and the car seemed to do much better. However, in the past couple of weeks, the check engine light stays on the entire duration of driving, and the car has continued its lurching acceleration and convulsion like problem. The unpredictableness in my car has made me somewhat fearful to drive because I'm not sure what's going to happen next, and if I can afford to fix it. I'd like to know my buyer's rights and see if there's any resolution to be had..

Car overheated. I pulled over, Ford dealer said head gasket cracked, engine needs replaced. Ford just extended warranty on V6 Taurus & Sable of same year because of problems, which start to occur at 65-70K. I think this is a similar problem and Ford should replace my engine.
