Contour SE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 103,000 miles

I have a contour with the dashboard peeling away as well. It start little some time ago...not real sure of the date...why would i write that down. Anyway, I have NOOO idea how to fix it...but have some ideas. I would like to screw the dash back in...but my problem is that the windshield is in my way, so i am left with; how do i go about doing this. I live in southern Mn...where the winters can get terribly cold (below zero sometimes) and the summers lately tend to get around 75-98'F...So my car gets a variety of temps. I don't mind the car, it's been the best car i've had really. Handles very well in all sorts of weather, road conditions. I've got other misc things i need done with it too.

Not sure if must add another complaint, or add to this one. For now, i leave it with the dash peeling away from windshield. I'm open to ideas. I've checked into labor n parts to get it "professionally" fixed-would cost me around $118...so it said. I can't afford that. Single mother, who is unemployed like most the world. Please help.

P.S-I haven't heard of any recalls on this matter. Doesn't sound like it mattered anyway...Ford did nothing about it. I believe this to be a driving hazard!

Contour ES 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission

I also have the dashboard peeling away and pulling up the vent. I had the windshield replaced and at that time I have the repair shop screw down the dashboard when the windshield was out. They did, the next summer when it got hot....up came the dashboard again! I even put a sunscreen on it all summer when it is sitting, but that does not help. This is definitely a manufactures problem and should be recalled!

Interferes with defroster. Saw someone else used zip ties, unsure how I would do that. Still adequate enough to see most days.

Contour Sport V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

Shortly after purchasing (used) the vent peeled up toward the window, causing it to almost not defrost the windshield (I live in the midwest with really cold winters). It has gotten worse after each hot summer. I had checked the recalls, but there was never a mention of it. I was quoted $250 to fix the problem...too much for my poor butt! So I have to let my car run extra long in the winter or risk not seeing due to the frost that forms, or in a pinch, take my scraper to the inside of the windshield. I never received a notice for the recall as others had mentioned there was one some time back.

Contour ES V6

the dashboard peeled up to where you could not see above it while driving. since i am relatively poor, i could not replace it. so i tied it down with ties and replaced interior vents by windshield. it was worse than a dashboard cracking. this car has a number of problems that seems enlist

Contour SE 2.0 V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

The dashboard has been curling back from the base of the windshield. It's to the point where the tabs that are suppose to be under the windsheild are now exposed and I can't even see the hood of the car without actually getting out and looking at it. Because of this, the defroster/ defogger hardly does its job. A little un-safe I think. Ford did a volantary recall (failed to notify us of the recall) a few years ago which is no longer in effect.
