1999 Ford Escort, had a wreck and the car was totaled out by insurance adjuster, the airbags did not deploy and even the insurance adjuster stated wow the airbags didn't even deploy. Me and my girlfriend were injured and went to the emergency room and have not been able to work since October 2011 and have over 100,000 dollars alone in medical bills and still have to have surgery. Airbags should have worked like they were installed to do. I called and spoke with someone at your location and she said that there wasn't a recall yet, but they have had several complaints about the same thing. I did not know how to fill out the information about the equipment. My complaint is that the airbags did not deploy or work when we had a accident in which the car was totaled out and we were in a 1999 Ford Escort.

The entire rear end of the vehicle was crushed; the contents of the trunk struck the contact causing minor injuries. There was a police report taken at the scene. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and the rear end was replaced.

I just want to complain that I feel Ford Motor Co. Should offer a subsidie for owners of 1999 Ford Escort zx 2 automobiles for the addition of disengagment switches for their front passenger side air bags devices. I am aware that newer models come equipped with this feature. I was advised by Ford Motor Co. That they actually encourage people to make this addition to their cars for safety purposes. I contacted my local Ford dealership and was told by the serviceperson that in the ten years "he or anyone working there" had never performed a "switch addition" I asked him if it would be expensive and he said probably yes and that he would call Ford and see exactly what could be done. He said he would call me back. He has never called back. I have three kids and there is only two seatbelts in the back. I want to be able to let my eleven year old ride in the front, but I am afraid of the airbag. Now that it is standard(switches) on the 2001 and newer cars I feel there should be some cost shared by Ford Motor Co. In performing this upgrade. I feel it should be a "recall" for this addition.

Consumer called complaining about having problems with the vehicle having electrical problems. The vehicle was taken into a dealer and stayed over night. The consumer went to pick up the car and when he got in the car it would not start. The mechanic told him to get into the vehicle. When he started it he realized that the air bag light was on. He was told to pump the gas pedal at which time both frontal air bags deployed. The manufacturer was contacted, as well as the dealer, and told consumer that it was caused for after market products that were install in the vehicle.

Since the car was first bought the engine has been extremely loud as well as shaking occasionally when stopping at a traffic light. I spoke with my salesperson, who was friendly and took it on a test drive again, and he found nothing wrong. He said it was probably due to the cold weather, but told me to take it to my local dealer to have it looked at as a precaution. I went to the local dealer and they would not see me then so I asked to make an appointment for a better time. I was told that no appointments could be made and they accepted cars on a first come first served basis. Since neither dealer is located close to me, I decided to wait a while to see if it was just the weather. In February, the air bag light came on and would not go off for 2 days and since then it will come on and stay on for a while, and sometimes it will turn off after a few days. This is a major concern because I don't want it to come out unexpectedly or to fail when needed. I went to the same local dealer 2 days ago and they would not see me. At first, the man tried to make me think it was all in my head, but after insisting on having it checked out anyway, he told me they could not see me and that I would have to make an appointment. I explained that I had tried to before, but was told I couldn't and he basically told me to call later to set up an appointment. Since a failure could cause a tragic accident I don't know where else to turn to have Ford check the car. It is only 3 months old and this is the 4th time I have had to see about it which makes me leary of either the quality of Ford or that my car is not up to the same safety standards as it should be. Please help. I also saw on the news last night that several Ford cars are being recalled now due to safety concerns so I would like to make sure my car is safe before me or someone else gets hurt. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me, and please let me know what steps to take.
