Check engine light was on and off intermittently. While on an Interstate highway, I went to accelerate and the engine suddenly lost power and would not accelerate. It then seemed to recover and I was able to complete the 400 mile trip I was on. As soon as I returned home, I took the car to the Ford dealer. The dealer let me know that the engine was blown. It was so bad that when they tried to run the diagnostic computer on it, the engine was so messed up that it caused the diagnostic computer to crash.

Tech said that the engine was smoking so bad that he had to take the car out of the service bay. When they drained the oil, it was black. I had just changed the oil in May. Tech said that since I went 13000 miles rather than the recommended 7000 miles between oil change, that caused the engine to fail. That sounds like total BS to me. I've never seen oil with only 13000 (highway) miles on it look so black. I believe that the engine failing caused the oil to turn black. The Ford rebuilt engine cost $7600 the total replacement will cost $12000 (!!!)

This is because the turbos will probably also have to be replaced. As soon as I get it fixed, I'm selling it. REF: transfer case failure this past June!
