The contact owns a 2013 Ford Flex. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering fault message displayed on the instrument panel and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer walnut creek Ford located at 1800 N main St, walnut creek, ca 94596 who diagnosed that the power steering rack was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 92,349.

I was making a right turn on a residential street and all of a sudden couldn't steer my steering wheel. My dash lit up like a christmas tree and gave me a power steering assist fault message. I pulled over and tried to restart the car and immediately got the power steering assist fault message again. It was scary and very dangerous. I now have no power steering and apparently my vehicle does not fall under the recall. It is my understanding that there are thousands having this issue. If Ford really cared about our safety they would at least meet us halfway with the cost of repairs. I'm looking at over $2000 out of pocket. This is frustrating and painful for me as I have rheumatoid arthritis and it causes stress on my joints to drive it as is. I am now terrified every time I get in my car to drive.

While driving at low speed (< 20 mph), within 20 seconds of beginning a trip, the car gave a warning dialog (see attached photo) and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. It took all of my strength to keep it on the road. I pulled over to the side of the road safely. After shutting down the car and restarting it, the problem was temporarily resolved. The next time I drove the car, the problem recurred, and since then has recurred every time I try to drive it.

Driving down the road when suddenly lost all power steering without notice. Alert showed up on dashboard. Very hard to control especially at slow speeds. Brought to Ford dealership and they will not honor the recall since it doesnt apply to my VIN but everything else they recalled for matches my car.

The steering went out one week ago. Checked all the recalls it matches the description of problem and meets all the timelines but was somehow like the rest not included in the recall. Dealer is presenting me with charges in excess of $2000 to repair. I have tried to resolve the issue with Ford to no avail. No one can do anything. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and I have to pick the vehicle up tomorrow. The steering is nearly completely gone.

While I was pulling out of my work parking lot, the power steering failure light came on and the steering became extremely hard to control. Unlike older vehicles without power steering, it was very stiff and hard to control no matter what speed I was going. When I looked up the issue there is an open recall for the exact same problem and even in the year car that I have. When I called in to get it covered under the recall they say that my VIN is not covered in the recall. They clearly know this is a safety issue and it's happening to my type of car. Had my wife been driving with our kids and didn't have the strength to control the car home who knows what might have happened. This is a huge problem and according to several forums I have read, I am not alone. This needs to be addressed to the full extent of the problem before someone is killed.

Power steering went out while driving at 70 mph on I-95 exit. Vehicle veered off into ditch. Luckily a nice person saw me go over the road and pulled the car out. Car was taken to Ford who then charged me close to 3,000 to replace a computer module. Has happened another time since then..

Electric power assist steering (epas) completely out and wheel can barely be turned. No power steering. My Flex was sitting on the top floor of a 7 story parking garage. I started it up to move down to get a closer parking space next to the floor I was accessing. I cannot afford the quoted steering column $3000 replacement I was given. Some recall is out but does not include all Ford models with this application, including mine. You call Ford for help or assistance and they read off their given answer... your vehicle does not fall under the recall.

This has been happening since January and 3X on 3/3/2020. While driving down a circular garage from work the vehucle shut off and power steering stopped almost heading me into the concrete barrier. It has been twice on side road when it shut off and steering was disabled and all 3X no warnings. Now for the 5th time as I put car in rwcerse the power steering shuts off with no warning and I become disabled. Have to wait and restart car. Its very dangerous and see complaints all over Ford blog and Flex forums..very scary to allow my daughters to drive..please have a recall or assist financially. Their telling over $2,800..thats crazy..

2013 Ford Flex. Consumer writes in regards to illuminated power steering light. The consumer state while driving the power steering went out with a very short notice. While attempting to stop the vehicle slowly ran over a curb. There was no damage. The manufacturer was notified and stated the vehicle was previously repaired for the failure. The manufacturer denied any additional assistance. The dealer denied assistance due to the code only showing that the vehicle failed due to impact, and not that the pscm failure was the cause of the impact.

While driving my 2013 Ford Flex the power steering disappeared and I almost lost control of the vehicle. I pulled over and turned it off, when I started it back up the power steering returned to normal. I stopped at my destination but when I returned to leave I found that the power steering was not responding. I drove it home with great difficulty. This repeated several times over the next two weeks, functioning at the start of the day but failing after the vehicle was turned off. The power steering finally gave out altogether. I checked and found that there was a recall that was announced on June 02 of 2015 for this exact issue covering Ford flexes from 2010 to 2013. I scheduled an appointment with my Ford dealership to get the issue resolved. I was told that my vehicle was manufactured a few months after the recall date, which covered vehicles manufactured up until Feb 28th of 2012. I can't understand one, how does a recall cover the years 2010 to 2013 but has an end date for eligibility of 2012?, the recall was announced on June 02 of 2015 and my vehicle suffered the exact same issue of those that the recall extend to. As well as what was done to remedy the part failure after the June 02, 2012 date that my vehicle (suffering the same malfunction/failure and manufactured just outside of the end date of the recall) was not included in the recall? I have found that the issue is within the sealed steering assist assembly itself witch suffers heat damage due to the placement of other components. Heat shielding within the unit has been reported to break down, resulting in the interior components to fail due to excessive heat exposure.

While driving I lost all power steering and almost lost control, thankfully it didn't happen while my wife was driving with the kids. I was able to pull off the road and shut the vehicle off. I restarted and the power steering was restored. This occured several times over the next few days until the power steering just stopped working all together. I checked for recalls and found that there was a recall that included my make, model and year for the loss of power steering assist (recall #15S18) I made an appointment with the sarasota Ford dealership and was told upon check in that my vehicle was not covered under this recall. The recall states that it covers model year 2013 Ford Flex with any engine. With a known, extreemly dangerous issue, I cant understand how my vehicle (expieriencing the exact issue described) is not covered.

"power steering assist fault".took a left turn on a main road in traffic and I hear "dingdingdingding" and the steering wheel pulled out of my hand and was fighting me to go straight, very heavily. Almost went into oncoming cars as I tried to pull it back into the turn. Almost hit a bus stop with people waiting, but I hit the curb. Pinched a chunk out of the tire and scraped up the wheel. I looked it up and is same or similar to Ford safety recall 15S18. My vehicle was made less than two months after the recall date limit, so Ford claims it is not covered. I am just glad my wife was not driving it, especially with our kids in it. She could not have handled it and could have been very bad. There is no check engine light, no codes, nothing.just the warning displayed. Then you press "ok" and it goes away with no more information.
