This issue just started out of the blue. Not only does it lunge forward without any kind of warning, it does the same thing when I have the car in reverse trying to back up.
Happened first time after stopping and parked in parking lot. Returned to vehicle after approx 4 minutes. Vehicle was parked with auto temp set at 60 for MAX A/C due to 90 deg temps. Fan position set on high both front and rear a/c. When restarted and shifted into Reverse and attempting to back out of parking space the engine REVVED to 2000rpm with my foot on the brake! The brake did not stop the car and it LURCHED BACKWARD approx 10 feet then STALLED! TURNED IGNITION OFF and RESTARTED. Check engine light on and transmission warning light on. Engine surging, I drove away until in a short distance it would only run 20 mph with throttle floored. WOT? Coasted to side of road and shut ignition and all accessories (A/C) etc, off. Waited 2 minutes and restarted and drove home slowly at that time because check engine and trans ck lite both off and engine ran better> made it 3 miles home!
At home I disconnected battery in sequence and reconnected to reset ECM. It worked fine then for a few days while I researched this problem. Then once more under same conditions it repeated exact scenario. Removed Air Cleaner/Filter at Throttle Body and idled engine while spraying combustion chamber and intake cleaner into throttle body.
No problems for several months and just lived with it due to problem was only intermittent> only occurring during hot weather with A/C on at startup.
Now, at this point in time, it has returned with a vengeance! Now November of 2015 and it has stalled and surged and stalled and now won't start WITHOUT the A/C ON! Waiting until Dec 1 as I am retired and on fixed income getting paid monthly and money is short. Will update on the first of the month when I have it towed to Ford Dealer.
Update from Jul 23, 2022: Had let car be repo to lenholder and filed bankruptcy due to cost of repair was more than value of car
I had a car full of kids and was heading to the park. I turn a corner in our subdivision and went to accelerate. At first the car had no power and then the engine surged and the car leaped forward.
I have had the engine surge many times while I have my foot on the brake after parking. But I have yet to do anything about it. I would guess it happens 3 to 6 time a year. Nothing has happened yet, but now I am getting concerned. I know it is out of warranty and I refuse to go to my local Ford dealer to have it fixed. They have lied to me so many times about the work they do, they over charge on everything. It was a big mistake to buy this car. I will no longer buy any Ford car and I tell everyone about it.
this car has been great except that the same problems repeat themselves over and over again!!! The air compressor. brakes and rotors and engine mount each at least 2-3 times.
