I have an 1999 GMC Yukon, the vehicle was experiencing unwanted anti-lock brake activation. This would happen every time I was traveling at around 5-10 mph. I check on the internet before scheduling the repair and found a recall on this issue with the vehicle. When calling to make an appointment for repair I was notified that my vehicle would not be covered under the recall. NHTSA campaign id number is 05V379000. I have had my vehicle repaired and called GMC at 1-866-996-9463 and was told that I would have to pay for the repair myself. I"M very confused on how I have the exact issue as stated in the recall but because my vehicle id number does not appear on the recall list I must pay for the repair. I would like to be reimbursed by GMC for the repair.

ABS has caused increased stopping distance on several occasions. Both at low speed and high speed. During a stop from 60 mph to a stopped condition, ABS caused braking to be reduced from about 45 mph down. Minor rear end collision resulted. On previous occasions, ABS has released braking when vehicle has gone over a bump in the pavement, causing increased stopping distance. This issue appears to be similar to campaign #05V379000. Why has the 99 GMC been excluded from the recall? dealer has not been contacted - yet.

1999 GMC Yukon 4WD. ABS activation at low speed, increased stopping distance, happens regularly. Several close calls, but no collisions (yet). NHTSA campaign id #05V379000, GM recall #05V-379 suggest that 1999 vehicles are subject to recall, but GM customer service line denies that the recall applies to my vehicle.

GM recall # 05068 for this safety issue. This recall pertains to certain pickup trucks and SUV's between 1999 and 2002 and failing ABS at slow speeds which causes the brakes to pulsate and to not work correctly. The recall covered most of the ne states (salt belt) and was caused by corrosion. The ABS low speed sensor's would malfunction and cause the ABS to activate and the vehicle would not stop (as if slipping). I own a 1999 GMC Yukon with 70K miles and the ABS sensors are shot. I called GM, they told me to contact a local dealer, when I did, the dealer said they would talk to the GM rep. Final answer from GM...since my VIN was not part of the recall, they will do nothing. They want $300 to fix my 99 Yukon, the same problem they would fix for free if it were a 1999 Sierra K1500 truck or a 2000 Yukon, both vehicles using the same ABS sensors. My 1999 GMC Yukon is a K1500 (as stated on the original sticker) and that vehicle is covered by the recall as well as the 2000 Yukon. I have checked and the replacement sensors are the same for my 99 Yukon as they are for the 99 K1500 and the 2000 Yukon. GM dealer said to me, "well you truck is out of warranty". what does that have to do with a safety recall. I have names from the dealership, the local GM rep, GM customer service call #71-550013xxx. Both GM and the dealership have refused to fix my vehicle under the GM recall, stating that since your VIN is not listed in the recall, there is nothing we can do. - the contact stated that while driving his 1999 GMC Yukon and coming to a stop he could hear the ABS engaged. While trying to stop the vehicle it continued to roll a few more feet. The contact stated that this happened everyday, and he tried to get the dealership to do something to fix the ABS. The ABS prevented him from coming to a complete stop. This failure caused a crash. The contact's vehicle struck another vehicle while trying to come to a complete stop. The impact was minor and little damage was done. The contact called the manufacturer, and was told to call the dealership. The contact called the dealership, and was advised that the vehicle was out of warranty, and he would be responsible for any diagnostics services. The contact was given a recall bulletin number from NHTSA # 05V379000, stating that dealership was to remove the wheel speed sensor. Updated 03/07/07
