I never had a backup camera before, so I had nothing to compare to until I noticed a friends backup camera. I could actually see details! A few weeks ago, I was backing slowly but did not see a woman in the parking lot behind me because I could not see her in the camera. I did not come close to her with the car, but she was extremely angry. I did not blame her. I am very paranoid whenever I have to back up, and keep looking at all mirrors and behind me. This could be a dangerous problem. I spoke to the dealer when I had routine maintenance done. My Adviser said he had never heard of this problem. He did sit in the car with me and tried to see if he could brighten the camera, but could find no way.
The back up camera is very poor on the new 2014 Honda Civic LX. When it is sunny outside the image is so dark that the camera is not a reliable tool for using to back the car up, thus, it is not performing as designed.
Since I have a rear view camera in another vehicle that I own ( 2013 Honda CRV) that is very good, I know that this one is very poor.
I have called the dealer and will take it in to be assessed and will report back their response at that time.
I owned a 2013 Civic and the rear view camera was awesome, this 2014 is very dark and the dealer looked at 2 other 2014's with me and they were the same, (very dark). So far no solution. When you backup during the day you almost can't see as good as the 2013 model. I have the brightness for the dash on the brightest setting already.
