Ours gets TERRIBLE gas mileage after a "software update." (from 40-50mpg to 22-30mpg) The Honda rep told me they had to sacrifice the fuel economy in the car because the update would make the EXPENSIVE motor-assist battery last long enough to make it past the warranty date. So-- they covered their behinds, but not their customer's. :( Boo hiss, Honda. You were my first car purchase I was truly proud of. Now, I basically paid several thousand extra dollars for a car that can't accelerate for beans and gets worse gas mileage than my 1992 Chrysler LeBaron. Man, I miss that car.

I feel dangerously vulnerable when trying to keep up with traffic driving up hills, and especially when I'm trying to accelerate getting on a highway. My vehicle simply is not up to the task, and people zoom around me dangerously. I would never had paid so much EXTRA for a car that wouldn't be able to do what it advertised it was doing. Basically, I have no HYBRID. I have a heavier non-functioning regular car.

After the Honda Customer Service guy explained to me that they had to sacrifice the fuel economy so that they wouldn't have to replace the expensive batteries while my car was under warranty, I asked if they had any plans to improve the current fuel economy through another "software update." He said no, and asked whether I'd like to launch a formal complaint. It felt really silly, because they won't do a thing about my "complaint," but I submitted it anyway. Booooo.

Before last year, I would have told you that we were going to stick with Honda vehicles for the rest of our lives. I'd never say that now.

Civic Hybrid EX 1.8L

  • CVT transmission
  • 30,000 miles

i received a recall to have a program downloaded to extend the life of my IMA battery ON MY 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid. what they didn't tell me was that my fuel economy would drop to 35mpg from 43.8mpg when this was done. I have called Honda and was told that since some of the batteries are failing at 90,000 miles I would just have to suck it up and take the change. Why in hell would I buy a Hybrid if it is only getting the economy of a gas engine. I asked the smart aleck Aaron at Honda for a refund on the difference in price and was told I could file a complaint with a consumer complaint. I asked to speak to a higher authority than him and he said he was all I'm going to get and ended the call.
