My service shifter will lock up and the gear shift will read that my car is in park, reverse, neutral, drive all at the same time. My dash will read -??service shifter-?? however it has been doing that since I purchased it. The wheels on the car will jerk and lock up. Luckily, I am not going fast and can safely pull over. The car will sputter and act like it is struggling to go. I have had everything checked and all other recalls fixed. When I mentioned it to the service department, they said they could replace the part but it doesn-??t guarantee that it will fix the issue. He gave me a quote to fix it and said the part is on back order or may be recalled soon. If it isn-??t in the process it needs to be before it takes someone-??s life. When I have checked social media it appears that multiple people are having the same issue.
While driving the warning chimed with a -??service shifter-?? message on the dashboard screen. All of the lights (P, D, N, R) were light in the shift indicator. Due to the warning message I was not able to see any other information on my dash. I wasn-??t sure if I could even keep driving leading me to panic for fear that I couldn-??t even put the car in park. After some research I have come to find this is a recurring problem with 2014-2019 Jeep Cherokees. Since this occurred on a weekend I intend on leaving the car parked for safety and calling a dealership Monday morning.
answers to the question and detailed description is below - the car completely shutdown while driving. - as the car shutdown while driving in the traffic, it was a major safety concern. - yes, service center told me it is just due to the battery - yes, by the authorized service center - no warning is appeared before the incident. I have a 2017 Cherokee purchased 2.5 years ago, 25.000 km and having regular service every 6 months. Just 100 km after i serviced the car, it shutdown while driving !!! The authorized service checked the car and the issue was just the battery. Generally when you have battery issue the car will not start without a jumper / booster but will not shutdown while driving at all. For Cherokee, it shutdown while driving !. Jeep service manager informed me that due to the used technology Cherokee can shutdown while driving when the battery finish (which is generally not the case in other cars). When i asked why the manufacturer didn't get any precaution for this, they mentioned that only Grand Cherokee has auxilary battery as a precaution and it is not obliged by the government and they just get some cases which is not enough to make a recall.
-??Service Shifter-?? message appears and all gears (P, R, N, D, etc.) light up on the gear shift. I purchased my vehicle brand new and this has been happening since 28K miles. When I contacted the dealership, I was told it was not covered under warranty or a recall; it would cost about $400 with parts and labor to repair. I was also told if I did not repair it, that it could eventually turn into a safety hazard where my engine would lock up and stall and I would be stranded on the side of the road and it would not start up again. What happens if this is occurs on the highway. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. On July 3, 2021 I stopped at STOP sign, then when I stepped on the gas car wasn't moving, when I looked at the gear shift I noticed all the lights are on, all P R N D AND "-" AND "+" NEXT TO THE GEAR (PICTURE ATTACHED). Then I stopped the engine and restarted the car to move on. On July 16, 2021 I took the car for oil change and showed the picture to the mechanic at the JEEP Service Center in Morgan Hill California (on Church Street in Morgan Hill, CA). The service guy said we know this problem it is a recall, he said it is wiring harness problem for the gear, he said they will fix it when they receive the part at no cost. Then, on July 26, 2021 I went back to see if they have received the part to fix the problem This time the service guy said it is not covered, JEEP will not pay for it. Well, if it is electrical wiring harness problem why should I pay for it. Such thing is a design/manufacturing problem, it is not wear and tear. Why should I pay for the problem created by manufacturers fault. My car completely cut off while driving it on 2 separate occasions on 6/14 & 6/29. I was going 15-20 mph and slowing down for a stop light both times. The car just cut off without any warning. Once I put it in park I was able to start it back up without a problem. I took it to get serviced and the shop said there were multiple faulty computer codes so they reset the system. They advised me to call the dealership to see if there is a recall. I called a dealership and there is not a recall. They told me to bring it in so they could do a diagnostic test and check the fuel system. The earliest appointment at 2 dealerships I called is a month out and if I scheduled a drop-off appointment that could be done in about 7-10 days.
SERVICE SHIFTER. The Shift Bezel keeps going out. I reading that is happening to a lot of other people only had this car 2 months. The gear shifter Bezel lights up all red and service shifter shows up on the dashboard.
Went to start my car and it didn't start. There was no cranking at all. Took it to the mechanic after jumping car. Mechanic called back few hours later. Said electrical is draing the power. Lucky I didn't loose my alternator. There was no one hurt and no sign of this happening before hand. Only the mechanic i took it too has checked
At traffic stop light, vehicle transmission disengaged and acted as though in a neutral or park position even though shift position was in drive. Warning lights indicated "Service Shifter". Placed shifter into park and turned off engine. Restarted and placed shifter into drive. Appeared to drive normally to destination. Next engine start, warning indicator of Service Shifter returned with no apparent drive issues. Next engine start, warning indicator did NOT appear.
Jeep will stall while driving. Engine will shut off, lose power steering, cannot accelerate to try to get out of harms way, battery, oil and engine light will come on and receive a message saying to "shift to park or neutral to start the vehicle". if you want a couple minutes the Jeep struggle to turnover but eventually will. This is extremely dangerous and this vehicle needs to be recalled immediately!!!! this is a major safety issue!!! it has happened to me 6 times in the past 3 weeks. It happens while driving and occurs without warning on any street or highway, turning or braking.
The car is constantly stalling while driving and then shutting off immediately. It doesn't matter if I am on the expressway or side streets. This has now happened two days in a row. It is very dangerous! literally have to sit stranded in a place until the car starts back up. Yesterday Apr 2, 2021, it stalled in the middle of 57th and cottage grove in Chicago and today apt 3, 2021, it stall on interstate 80 at the calumet exit heading West, with my child in the car... regular maintenance has been done. New oil change and still stalls and shuts off. It's happening once a week and the dealership acts like they have no idea. Taking it back to the dealership for an appointment on 4/13!
Our service shifter light started coming on periodically at around 20K miles. It has happened no less that 10 times now. This is problematic since it will happen while driving and the powertrain will shift into neutral causing the driver to have to pull over while in traffic. I talked to the Jeep dealer who said this is out of the bumper to bumper 3 year/36K warranty and not covered by the powertrain warranty. When this happens the service shifter light comes on and the gear shift lights are all red, P, R, N, D, the vehicle loses power and goes nuetral. There are hundreds of posts about this issue. My back gate/ truck will not open from the outside at all I press the button on my keys and the button on the outside of the gate/trunk and nothing the only was I can open it, is if we claim on the back and manueling open it, we tried everything and it doesn't open.
Shifter sensor lights keeps coming on and all lights on shifter light up red, while stationary and in motion. I have to stop turn the car off and restart it to proceed.has been happening for over a year.
I just purchased my car January 4, 2021. I have had it cut off on me 4 times. Like shut completely off and it takes like 10 to 15 minutes to actually start back up. The shift gears message pops up, it cut the traction control automatically off so that light pops up. The check engine light and battery light pops up. I dont know whats happening but it almost caused an accdident twice on 695 highway because it shut off. Thank god the kids were not with me at the time. I am reading that his happens to alot of people with Jeep. Wish I would have known that before purchasing. I just want a safe and reliable SUV for me and my children.
When driving and making a right or left turn, an error message pops up on the screen stating can not switch gears while in drive, then the engine shuts off, it has happened to me 6+ times in the last month, it has happened in the middle of a left turn in a busy intersection 3 times and almost caused an accident. Once car is shut off and you give it a minute, when you restart it takes time to turn over. This is so unsafe and I am afraid every time I drive as I drive my daughter in this vehicle and think this should be a recall for sure. I took it to a mechanic they test drove and had the same issue twice, they ran diagnostics and nothing came up, when they researched it they found the complaints on this website and said I should take it to a dealership and they read that it may have something to do with the oil being used to quickly and when the turn occurs it sucks in air. Please help!!!
