The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving 55 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor. The contact smelled a burning odor coming from the rear brakes. The vehicle still managed to stop, even though the pedal dropped. There was no fuel leakage. The dealer stated that the brakes were locking, but was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 06V493000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module). The vehicle reaches 11 miles per gallon. The failure mileage was 5 and current mileage was 4,600.
