Driving down street with no stop signs out of corner of eyes I saw a silver car speeding through a stop sign luckily I saw it early and slammed on my brakes, we hit very hard I hit steering wheel my passenger was injured too, my question is im reading that 2002 Jeep airbags go off easily why didn't mine go off, I bought the car when it was 1 year old but never checked if it had any accidents, its suppose to have airbags in the front and passenger seat, could the dealer have sold me a defective Jeep. The other driver was speeding causing to hit very hard, why didn't the airbag deploy which would have saved me from hitting the steering wheel (I cant remember what else I hit all I know is I was taken in ambulance to emergency room my passenger drove to emergency room cause she didn't want to be put on as board she has a plate in her hip we are both 64 years old. If my car was defective when I bought it in 2003 I need to do something about it. Im reading that those 2002 airbags go off very easily why didn't mine. [xxx].[xxx] bought car in 2003 from royal gate Dodge ellisville mo. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Noticed small rust bubbles developing under paint at area of seams along right side of rear window glass and also on roof on right side just below roof rack rail and rear roof mounted brake light. Brought to dealer and showed service manager but said nothing could be done as I was past warranty limit for rustproof corrosion. This was about 3-4 years ago. Requested contact by district manager-who finally called after multiple follow-up calls by me, and said my claim was denied. Wrote letter to Jeep customer relations corporate but never heard from them. Rust situation has progressed and now have substantial hole in right rear corner of roof. Rust spreading. Car has been meticulously maintained and cleaned regularly, waxed at least 2X per year. Rest of vehicle in top shape. Very disappointed in Jeep's lack of help.

On approx the date entered, the left rear electric window glass dropped into door frame and would no longer operate. Investigation found that plastic clip on the end of the window regulator cable gets worn and breaks, and window becomes disconnected from regulator at this point. Very expensive for simple fix, cost over $100 for entire new regulator, as plastic clip is not available separately. Thankfully I am mechanically inclined and I was able to install it myself, as estimate from then daimler-Chrysler was over $300 for repair. Since that time, the other window regulator broke in the exact same fashion, and being the replacement part had gone up even further in cost, I taped window shut. Before I could afford to fix other window, the one I had previously repaired broke again in an identical fashion. All three rear window regulators, both factory originals, and one factory replacement, broke within 3 years. Both windows were then taped up, as I wasn't about to buy well over $200 worth of trouble prone replacement parts only to have situation take place yet again. Thankfully, an aftermarket source now sells metal parts to replace defective, wear prone parts supplied by Chrysler-Jeep. It cost $100 to further repair both windows with aftermarket metal parts, and I have experienced no trouble since. Incorrectly designed/manufactured parts supplied by Chrysler-Jeep are definitely the issue here.

I am experiencing a rattling sound when driving uphill or downhill through driveway, traveling 5-20 miles an hour. I took my Jeep 2002 Liberty 2wd to get serviced and received recommended repairs: Prosteer control arm with ball joint upper center, remove and install propeller shaft to replace universal joints on both ends, rear wheel bearings, tail pipe is welded to muffler, muffler does not meet design specifications and should be replaced due to exhaust leak as well, remove rack and pinion, complete rack as does not meet design specifications and is leaking. I was driving about 25 mph and my rear right side tire was smoking profusely. I pulled over and noticed the gray smoke from my tire. I took the car to check the rear breaks. They were fine but was told that I had a leak from the exhaust pipe which dripped on to that area. The car has 75,806 miles. I was told that I could loose control of vehicle and entire area can collapse during traffic due to these issues. Aside from these issues, I am experiencing a whistling sound, problems with rear drivers side passenger power window regulator which produces grind-like sound. The window came off and I was told that I needed a new regulator for the window. I'm also experiencing a red stain in engine oil drippage on ground. Finally, strange odor from car -odor continues to be present whether I wash the carpets and seats (smells like mold/mildew or skunk).

The rear window of my 2002 Jeep Liberty just fell while I was driving. I could not get it to stay up and now have it taped up. After doing some investigation of my own this seems to be a recurrent problem with people having replaced the window regulator multiple times. Sometimes when the window falls the cable somehow keeps the rear door from opening. This could be a very dangerous issue for adults and children. Also, with the window falling for no reason I am afraid it may fall, break, and cut someone. It seems there is a part made out of plastic that continues to break and it should be fixed. I have an appointment to get my vehicle fixed and have found that it may cost between $300 and $500 and then may break again. I am a little concerned about that.

The driver side of my Jeep has been getting water on the floor. Yesterday there was about 2 inches in the front and back of the drivers side the passenger side have always been dry. Is there a recall on whatever stops the water from coming into the care. The floor normally only gets wet this is the worst.

Jeep Liberty pulls to right, will stop dead in its tracks while in drive, hard to control, thumping noise, metal to metal grinding from front end, seat belts do not work properly, hard to start, front seat covers rippled, paint peeled on hood, tailgate, breaks only work some of the time, shakes and hard to control on speed above 35 mph, all interior weather stripping came off. Same complaints from 1/7/03 ball joints replaced on recall on 1/10/03 still had pulling to right problems, shaking, . weather stripping all fell off on interior of car, acts like wheels are binding. 3/4/03 same complaints pulling to right, stops dead in its track, hard to control, wheels bind, dealer could not duplicate complaints (did not write up work order) 3/27/03 dealer installed interior weather stripping, same complaints as 1/10/03,3/4/03. Again on 6/2/03 took Jeep Liberty to dealer took a test drive could not verify complaints. Did not write up a work order. 1/16/04 Jeep Liberty hard to start, pulls to right, Jeep shakes & vibrates hard to control, seat belts do not work, seat rippling, car stops dead it its tracks, dealer fixed lower ball joints again on 2/13/04 at 23,850 miles. 2-13-04 picked up car from dealer still had same problems" dealer stated " this is how Jeep drive" they are nuts! 11-04 dealer took test drive was still having problems claimed everything okay. Did not right up a work order. 5/27/05 had massive problems brakes would go to the floor, sometime would work and other time not. Took to nearest brake place pads, okay, but wheel cylinder leaked. Claim it could be a intermittent failure of master cylinder, called dealer ship no part available. 7/5/05 took to dealer again with same problems, R they had not even looked at it. Removed Jeep and took to private auto placed, ut with intermittent problems you could replace most of the parts on the car & you may not cure the problems.

Within a year and a half, I had three windshield replacements. Insurance agent said with that many replacements, could be defect. Every time Jeep hit bump, would squeak. Took two dealerships 5 attempts to fix. Paint was peeling on grill, had repainted. Jeep constantly pulls to the right. Have had alignment and tire rotations, still not fixed. Latest, all four aluminum wheels are corroding due to them being manufactured with aluminum and steel. According to the dealership, the rims have been redesigned, but because my mileage is over 36, 000 miles, they are charging to replace them even though a dealer at the same dealership was having the exact same problem and had his replaced at no cost. Field district manager refuses to speak to me, who made the decision for me to pay. Can someone please guide me in the right direction. I need help. Cgray78@aol.com.

Bug/air deflector creates loud wind whistle noise when installed to factory specs. May be due to rubber stoppers on the back of the deflector.
