I bought the car at 130,000 miles. It was fine for almost a year and a half but then a ticking noise developed around the engine area. It happens a few minutes after I turn it on and start driving and it doesn't cease. I'm smart enough to not go to the dealer about this because they will "find" an issue and charge me thousands. After some research, I believe it's either a fault with the camshaft or the lifters are worn out. Maybe the owner before me didn't change the oil regularly and that's why they got worn. The system doesn't trip any trouble codes so I think I'm fine. But the sound is very annoying and makes me think the engine is going to blow up

I reported the ticking to Lexus in Tacoma, WA and they charged me $900 to replace my water pump (two weeks before Christmas). To my surprise that did not fix the ticking sound. I brought it in again in April and they told me that it would cost $3,600 to replace the cam gears (the ticking is a result of oil leaving the system when the car is off). They said it's not a problem and they don't have to be replaced but how am I going to sell a car that ticks sixty percent of time you start it? I only have 125,000 miles on this car and it's cost me more than my two Honda's with 300,000 + miles. I travel for work and only drive the car half the year, the other half it's garaged. Never again will I purchase a Lexus.
