The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed as it traveled to the floorboard. The contact stated that the emergency brake had to be engaged to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the master cylinder was replaced, but would not bleed. The vehicle was then towed to knox Ford (461 S dixie blvd, radcliff, ky 40160, (888) 433-4805) where the contact was informed that the booster and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the cost of the repair would not be free of charge. The failure mileage was approximately 220,000.

I was driving in snow and ice going down a hill when my ABS activated. Suddenly the brake pedal hit the floor. Once that happened it took twice as long to stop the vehicle. Brought the vehicle home. Bled the brakes, same thing pedal hit the floor. Changed the ABS hydraulic pump, bled the brakes and used a scan tool to bleed the ABS hydraulic pump. Then rebled the brakes. Same result pedal goes to the floor. Then changed the master cylinder bled the master cylinder and bled the brakes. Same result pedal hits the floor. However this time I have no brakes. I have to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. I have not been able to drive the vehicle on the road in almost 2 months. I have spent almost $1500 dollars and countless hours fixing and researching this issue. I have noted that many others are having similar issues with their Milan's and Fusion of similar years.

Immediately after the ABS brake system activated, my brake pedal went to the floor and I went thru a red light. My research indicates that this is a common issue with the ABS pump/module. My vehicle was in motion on a busy street and fortunately didn't hit a car at the intersection when I went thru the red light. I was told to go to a Ford dealership to have the defect confirmed. I called the closest Ford dealership and they want $129 to do diagnostics to confirm my brakes aren't working before they can confirm. Are you kidding me? contact stated complaint was sent in about a year ago and has not been driven most of the year. Consumer's vehicle was not part of the recall but would like to add the ABS system and the system pulse to the recall. Pedal went to the floor when driven in snowy conditions.

Was leaving my church parking lot going straight up the isle doing maybe 15 miles per hour when a car backed out right in from of me. When I slammed my brakes on the peddle went to the floor with no response. I pulled my emergency brake to stop with just a few inches. This is the third time it has happened. If I slowly apply pressure to the peddle it stops normally. After replacing brake pads, rotors, and bleeding all 4 lines multiple times it hasn't helped and this past Sunday 1-6-2019 was a very close call. I researched the issue online and came across 42 other complaints of the same thing on another site.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 18V046000 (air bags). Montrose Ford (3960 medina rd, fairlawn, oh 44333, (330) 666-0711) was unable to determine when the part would become available for an extended period of time. The dealer provided the option of a loaner vehicle. The vehicle was also included in field service action number: 13N03 (electronic throttle body extended coverage). The contact also stated that when the brake pedal was depressed for three days or longer, it became more difficult to stop the vehicle and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The contact traveled through a red light due to the failure. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake master cylinder may need to be replaced. The vehicle was not included in any brake system recalls. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Brake failure: I was driving on interstate (55 miles per hour), and when traffic stopped, I went to put on brakes and my brakes went straight to the floor!! I kept hitting the brakes and hitting the brakes and they kept going to the floor. It was a blessing that I was able to pull over on the side of the road in the off lane to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I had to have my vehicle towed to a body shop. I was informed that the master cylinder and some kind of pump (asb pump) or something was bad. I could have run in the back of a vehicle and someone (including myself) could have been injured. I have googled this and there are over 700 complaints on Milan brakes. Why isn't there a recall on these? !!

Please investigate the Milan / Fusion soft braking issue. Without notice on a turn, the brakes go to the floor. This happened in Nov. 2017 and July 2018. In Nov. 2017 the fluid was flush but it reoccurred. Fortunately, no one was in front of me or there would have been an accident or fatality. The car took an excessive distance to stop. This is a known problem that Ford must correct before someone dies.

Faulty ABS pump causes low brake pedal, soft braking. I have almost rear-end vehicles due to the brake pedal going to the floor during normal driving. Seems to be a common fault on these Fusion/Milan.

I was in motion merging onto a two lane highway. I ran over two consecutive manhole covers while lightly braking to see if it was clear. But when I went to brake because it wasn't clear to merge onto the highway I had barely any brake! thankfully the car in front of me was able to merge or I would have hit him. After that I had a very soft brake pedal. Left it in a parking lot until after work. So hours later, the brakes seemed fine. But I didn't trust it. Had it towed and Ford told me it was the ABS hcu and ECU and that they are known for this problem. Especially after traveling on a rough roadway. I had to go back to the road the next day because I couldn't remember it being a rough road. Then I saw the two consecutive manhole covers. I ran them over in my husbands truck and sure enough, even his truck jolted from them, enough for the ABS to engage. This is a horrible issue and I'm amazed that Ford has not made it a recall yet! what will it take!? the repair was quite expensive. And I was out of a car for two whole weeks! it took almost a week for the part to come in. Not sure if that was the dealers bs or Ford not having the parts readily available for an issue they already know exists. This has not been my first Ford product but it sure may be my last!

Intermittent problem with soft brake pedal that went to floor nearly causing an accident. My mechanic checked the master cylinder and could not pinpoint the problem. Took vehicle today (07-11-2018) to wayne Lincoln Mercury to determine what is causing my car to keep having this problem. I have lost almost one week of work and the mechanic still has not figured out what is causing my brakes to fail. Unable to bleed the brakes, according to my mechanic. Now waiting on wayne Lincoln to figure out what the problem is. Already reported the condition to Ford and learned this is a problem that you and Ford are already aware of.

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. On several occasions, when the brake pedal was depressed, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the stopping distance was increased. On one occasion, the vehicle drove through an intersection before coming to a stop. The contact, a certified mechanic, diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Brakes failing! vehicle will stop on initial depression of brake pedal. Condition arises when once at a complete stop after initiating a braking event, if pedal is released and then re-depressed, the pedal will go to the floor and the vehicle will not stop. Condition is intermittent, but guaranteed to happen.

My wife had a total brake failure (pedal went to the floor, no warning lights or any prior problems) as a result of which she went through a red light. She rolled to the side of the road where she shut everything off. When she restarted the brakes worked fine. Ford deler says a $1454 new hcu unit may fix the problem. No other diagnosis even though brake system was thoroughly examined.

I was driving straight at a steady 30 mph and hit the brakes on light ice when approaching a red light. The antilock brakes activated for about one-half second, and then the brake pedal went all the way to the floor, with only the most minimal braking occurring in the very last inch of pedal travel. The car came to a stop in the middle of the intersection. Fortunately, there was no cross traffic entering the intersection at the time and there were no injuries. I took the car to the Lincoln dealer who said the ABS module had failed, as had the master cylinder. At no point during the event, or afterward, did any brake light come on and no warning message displayed on the dashboard textual display, despite the car having virtually no brakes. The car was in the dealer repair shop for five days and I was charged $1,686.66. At no point prior to the failure did the brakes exhibit any issues what-so-ever. It was a sudden and full brake system failure with absolutely no prior warning and no dashboard indicators of brake failure afterward.

The brake pedal had excessive travel. When pressure was applied to slow the vehicle, the pedal would not hold steady, but would drift to the floor. The vehicle would slow down and stop, but when slowing from a relatively high speed, it was necessary to "pump" the brake pedal. One would have to wonder if total brake failure would eventually occur. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. It was in the shop for several days, as no reason for the problem could be determined. Eventually they contacted Ford for technical assistance in diagnosing the problem. According to their tests, the problem was with the hydraulic control module, which was bypassing brake fluid internally, and it was replaced. While it has only been a few days since the repair, the brake performance is much improved. I checked online and see that there have been problems with Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan having brake failure. I believe that this is a serious problem that could result in injury or death. Drivers of my vehicle, even after repair, anticipate potential brake problems when we drive.

Exact same issue as reported in 2007-2009 Mercury Milan. Brakes are super soft after I had brand new brake pads, rotors and calipers put on and had the lines bled for any air in them. I almost crashed due to this issue a few times with one being almost deadly. I was driving roughly 55 miles an hour on a highway when I tried stopping and the brakes basically gave out for no apparent reason. I lost control of the vehicle but was able to avoid a crash and almost had a heart attack from it. The brakes continue to be super soft and it requires a lot of distance to make sure my car stops on stop signs and traffic lights in time. It is extremely unsafe and I basically cannot drive my only vehicle that I have.

The contact owns a 2010 (na) Mercury Milan. While attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard without warning. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brakes and rotors were corroded and were cleaned up by the technician. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (bill brown Ford in livonia, mi) where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic unit, all four brakes, and the rotors needed to be replaced. The failures were not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and a voice message was left with a representative. The contact stated that no one returned the call. The failure mileage was 33,808.
