Initial incident occurred while I had a passenger in the front right seat driving at 35 mph. Three beeps from and a 'service air bag' warning message displayed on my dash. After stopping and shutting off my car, the warning did not appear when I started it again. Exactly two weeks later, the same thing happened again when riding with a passenger, but this time the warning did not go away after restarting my vehicle. Now, the warning comes up every time I start my vehicle. This is a known issue with Saturn Sky and Pontiac solstice models. As it relates to passenger safety, should immediately be recalled.

The sensor in the passenger seat failed, giving an airbag warning indicator light. Nobody was in the seat and it was not being used at the time of the failure. This is the second 2007 GM vehicle I had that failed at around the 40,000 mile mark for the same part. The passenger seat sensor is defective. I've read about many Saturn Sky and Pontiac solstice owners having the exact same problem. Dealer refuses to repair as vehicle is out of warranty by months, not miles.

I was pulling out of my driveway when I noticed the warning light to "service airbags" I went to the dealer who said it is not a recall so far. They wanted $110 just to check for the problem, but did not include labor if needed. This is a safety issue and should be a recall free to owners!!

The passenger air bag warning light came on. The message center warned of air bag error. Note: Many Saturn Sky cars are reporting this flaw. This car had only 24,500 miles on it. It has never been abused. It has less than 26,000 miles on it now. Is this a recall" can onstar trigger this notice"

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was informed that the air bag system on the front passenger side failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 31,000.

I just bought this Saturn and the next week the passenger air bag light came on. I have done research a lot of people with this issue have complained and it is expensive to repair. There are numerous reports of people with the passenger airbag and saying it should be recalled. I agree because there was no reason for it to need serviced yet.

Air bag passenger present module in passenger seat has failed giving an error code. This is a known problem on Saturn Skys as the forums have several reports of similar failures. I see that BMW has just issued a recall for these sensors. The Saturn Sky and Pontiac solstice should also be recalled.

In 2009, the passenger side airbag sensor began to intermittently fail to detect the presence of a passenger. The passenger restraint light sometimes registered "off", even when passenger was present. Because it was intermittent, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. In 2014, the failure became ever-present, with additional warning lights on the dashboard, the driver information system, and an audible warning chime on ignition start. Repeated calls to GM have had no results. The company line is that the car is out of warranty, and the product line has been discontinued. The cost of repair is substantial, approaching $1,000, for an airbag sensor module located beneath the passenger seat. Although a common problem for the 2007 Saturn Sky and Pontiac solstice cars, GM says that this is not a safety issue deserving a recall.

Car is 2007 model with <20,000 miles and has air bag warning light coming on. The car is rarely used and is garage kept. I see hundreds of complaints online about this safety problem on the Saturn Sky. GM should warn the public owners and do a recall to fix this dangerous safety problem.

The passenger air bag sensor in my vehicle failed shortly (2 mos) after its 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty expired. Any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($500 - $800), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle.

5/14/12 46222 miles vehicle indicated a "service air bag" warning - took vehicle to covert Buick dealership service for diagnosis. It was determined that the passenger present module was faulty and it was replaced. 2/10/15 84300 miles vehicle is again showing "service air bag" warning. Again problem with the passenger present module. It was conveyed that if this module is not in working order the passenger air bag may not deploy in the event of an accident. It is obvious that this module is poorly made to have another failure in less than 40,000 miles. The passenger seat on this car is used very infrequently, no spills of any kind. My research shows that this a common issue with this part. GM should take action to avoid injury or fatality at their hands. Thank you

Dec 012014

Sky

  • 60,000 miles
Dashboard message center indicating a "service air bag" message when car is started. Receive the message every time key is turned on... I understand from other owners of the Saturn Sky this is a common issue related to the passenger side seat sensor. GM will not cover the cost to replace the sensor, even though it is a part of the vehicle safety system. The failure of this component should not be considered a normal "wear and tear" component and/or a periodic maintenance issue. GM has issued recalls on other GM models with the same or similar issues, so why not the Saturn Sky. It seems GM needs government intervention and/or lawsuits, before it will take action. As a Sky owner I should not have to be concerned whether or not my air bag will deploy, due to a defect in a safety system. A car owner's expectation is the air bag system will function properly for the life of the vehicle, just like the expectation the seat belt will function properly during the life of the vehicle.

2007 Saturn Sky recently, a light came on the dashboard which read "service air bag." The consumer was informed by a reputable auto garage shop, the vehicle needed a sensor which activated the air bag, at a cost of $800 plus, and after the repair was completed, he would need to take the vehicle to the dealer to be reprogrammed at an additional cost of approximately $125. The consumer went to the dealer, and was informed the sensor would cost $ $1,692. The consumer declined the repairs. The consumer went online and discovered, the 2009 model was recalled for the same issue.
