Engine failure due to known Oil Consumption issue with this VIN#. Subaru settled a class action lawsuit regarding this issue: "Oil Consumption Settlement" by extending warranty to 100,000. Customer supplied all service records but Subaru denied claim due to loophole claiming that since engine could not be tested by dealer for oil consumption due to catastrophic failure, Subaru Corporate would not honor the extended warranty. Subaru only offered $2000 "good will" credit and dealer offered to discount labor charge. During repair dealer discovered that rockers had failed (see TSB 02-150-14R) which caused additional repair costs which they would not cover but offered another $500 "good will" credit. Subaru violated the spirit of the settlement by not covering the repair for a vehicle clearly destroyed by known design/manufacturing defects. Our out-of-pocket cost ultimately still totaled $6300.and resale value in our vehicle was destroyed by Subaru Corporation negligence.
