CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

I took my 2006 4Runner to Toyota of Memphis.I had three indicator lights on, the check engine light was on,the TRAC OFF. The 4Runner was running fine no power loss. The service representative came to me and told me that the air injector pumps were gone and gave me an estimate of $2,200.00 to repair an emission problem. This vehicle is only has 132,000 miles.

I later learned that they knew that they had air injector pump problems with V8 model years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2012. Toyota warranties some V8's and newer up to 150000 miles with the same V 8 Engine. Why has Toyota not addressed this problem? They have admitted the air intake system is a design flaw but unfortunately refuse to include the first gen V8's 2004-2006.
