This is a very expensive car. We bought brand new and then started to notice cracks in the front part of the passangers side dash. This is my wife's car and she only drive about 7 miles a day. I see on here that this is a common problem. Very disapointed that from what i read the dealers want nothing to do with the poor quality of the factory installed parts. I will try visiting the local Toyota dealer for some resolve. If i recieve none I will try to start a nation wide class action law suit to have this escalated into a recall.

I am sorry to hear that others have had problems with the dash on their Toyota Avalon. I only have 40,000 miles on mine and it has new cracks in the dash and surround every day. The car has been garage kept since I bought it new and rarely sits out in the sun. This will certainly affect my trade-in value and is bothersome to me for such a nice, expensive car. Obviously, this is a defect and Toyota should cover the expenses of repairing in or risk losing many loyal customers. The fix will not cost them that much money, however losing satisfied customers over time will.

Update from Sep 10, 2013: They say that they have no documented cases. Please encourage all to contact Toyota and make an official complaint.

I think Toyota should man up and fix the problems with the cracks in dash board.

My car only has 28000 miles on it. yes I am talking about the 2006 Avalon. I think

we should take them to court.

I am both relieved and at the same time sad that I'm not the only one with this very ugly problem (cracks in the dashboard). I see that the complaints come from only 2 states Texas and Florida. I guess Toyota didn't make their interiors for the HOT climates. I hope a lot more people complain and they recall the dashboard because a $2000 repair bill is out of the question! It was such a beautiful car until this started!!!

I ordered this car new. It has had a carpet dash cover for the past four years, but that has not prevented the relatively sudden formation of a total of five major cracks on the top and front passenger side of the dash in the three months since the first one appeared. They are long, ugly, and very much in one's face. This has been a great, relatively trouble-free car until now and I pride myself in keeping it clean and well maintained. This experience has soured the ownership experience for me and I literally feel angry and cheated all over again every time I climb into the car.

The local Toyota dealer claims to have no knowledge of this dash deterioration problem in other Avalons or Camrys, but the internet is full of complaints about this issue and I know Toyota must be fully aware of the uproar about their defective dashboard materials. The dealer refused to get involved with their corporate headquarters on my behalf. I am left with an otherwise clean, beautiful car with a hideous looking dashboard

and a sharply reduced market value.

I have owned four new Toyotas over the years and I had planned to sell this one to my son and get another new Avalon or possibly a Toyota Venza in 2014. In light of Toyota's unwillingness to stand behind their rather pricey Avalon, I now strongly doubt that another Toyota will happen. I don't like being gypped and I vote with my wallet. Buy one of these cars at your peril.

Hairline cracks started creeping along my dashboard on my 2006 Avalon Ltd - Toyota. I have 9 cracks by now and I'm sure I will have more as time goes by. Such a beautiful car and inside all I see are these cracks. So upsetting and I thought I was the only one who had them. Now I see I am not alone. I will certainly think twice before I think of trading it in and purchasing another Avalon.

At approximately 40,000 miles my wife discovered that the dash had some hairline cracks had started to form.Since ten the cracks have gotten larger and more numerous and have appeared on all areas of the dash. I am sure that this has resulted from using inferior material. I have purchased many Toyota's over the years such as the Tercel, Corolla and Sienna just to name a few and never run into this problem before. This will severely impact my buying decisions in the future if this issue cannot be resolved equitably.

Dash has numerous cracks up to about 18" long. Dealer wants $1,918.61 to replace, and this is the most expensive car I've ever owned.

Bought my first new car in 1961 and have owned at least ten since; also, a number of used vehicles. Never had a dash crack before. Other vehicles are apparently not made from such cheap materials.

Message would appear to be: don't buy a Toyota - ever!

I have driven Toyotas for years. I have never had this problem with the less expensive models!! Move up a bit and get a sub-par product. I love this car, but now I look at cracks while driving it. Very disappointed. Enough to maybe look elsewhere for my next vehicle.

The worst part is they won't even consider a fix.

We ordered this car (2006 Toyota Avalon) and took ownership in August, 2005. We have been EXTREMELY pleased with the car...comfort, gas mileage, low maintenance. We just noticed the hair-line cracks in the dash...they run from left to right across the entire dash, right on the front edge, facing the driver/passenger. I will call my local Toyota dealer to see what they can do.

Avalon XL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

I purchased my 2006 Toyota Avalon in July 2009 at 24,000 miles. Very good condition. In March of 2010 I notice a small crack/slashed on the dashboard. I did take much of it until the crack gets longer, now the whole passenger side is all cracked up including the lower frame. This car is exposed to minimal sun and rain. I purchased a dashboard cover which doesn't seems to help. I took the care to the dealer and the manager stated his superior stated the car is out of warrenty and 26,000 miles over warrenty. The car is now 62,000 miles. I don't think a fairly new car interior should be destroy so quickly. I believe it's a manufacturing problem. Please help me. Not sure who to turn to/responsible.

Thx

I bought a new toyota avalon in January of 2007. It is in very good condition with low mileage. I started with 4 cracks in the dash around the passenger airbag. Within 6 months there are now 8 cracks. Toyota has refused twice to replace it, giving me two different excuses for an obvious defect in material. Although they did tell me they would repair it for $2000.00.I am not done trying to get some help from them.
