4 rod bearing bad, bearing spun on crankshaft, babbit peeling
I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander. At 52,000 miles the engine started knocking. It was 6 months out of warranty by the time limit, not milage. I contacted my dealer, was advised to have it towed to them in Superior, Wi. I did, they diagnosed the problem being in the crankshaft by just listening to it. I asked if Toyota could help financially with the repair since it was such low milage and the mechanic told me it was nothing I had done or neglect of maintanence. I WAS TOLD BY MANY DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS FROM TOYOTAS COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENTS, THAT THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME, SINCE I HAD NOT DONE MY SERVEICE AT A TOYOTA DEALER. It is 130 miles roundtrip to the nearest dealer. I work 5-6 days a week. I have no time to run there for oil changes, etc. I take it to a reputable dealer in my town, in business for over 40 years. It was diagnosed as follows:
found #4 rod bearing bad-from (believed from factory) babbit peeling off and bearing spun on crankshaft. It cost me $4057.80 to repair this problem.Needed to install new rod, reground with all new bearings.I was without my vehicle for an extended period of time since the crankshaft had to be sent out of town. I am certainly very unhappy that Toyota will not stand behind their product better, at 52,000 miles. I love my vehicle, but I will never purchase another Toyota.I live in Hayward, Wi.. Purchased at Kari Toyota in Superior, Wi..I had the vehicle towed back to Hayward to have it repaired. I was not giving Toyota another dime of my money, and never will.
