I can't really gripe, rant, or yell. I bought the truck used, and surveyed it as best I could with my limited knowledge. The lift gate was not always working even on the lot, but I assumed I just didn't know what I was doing. It really hurt because I paid $30,240 for this beautiful vehicle. I purchased a warranty, Platinum Powertrain, but they said it didn't cover this item. The original owner only had this truck for 2 years and 9 months.

Update from Jul 28, 2015: I am happy to make my report. I took my vehicle back to the dealer where I made my purchase, StokesBrown Toyota of Beaufort, SC. Without a hitch they told me my warranty did cover the item and they repaired the liftgate immediately. It works beautifully. No more problems. I love my toyota!!!!!

took my Highlander 2012 to the Toyota dealer. Was informed that the ONE bolt inside the rear door fell the lift off because the nut welded to frame fell off. I told them it sounded like a warranty issue. They instructed me my warranty ended 2 months ago and I would have to pay between 500 to $1000 to repair it. (money i do not have) I wrote to the service manager asking why a welded nut would cost so much and I felt it was a defect in their manufacturing . I never heard a word from them. I will no longer take my Toyota to any Toyota dealership for normal maintenance, plus ever buy another Toyota product. (which I have ONLY owned)

Update from Sep 27, 2015: one year later, Toyota still will not fix the problem at their expense.
