I sold the car once the dealer told me it will cost $3300 to repair it. You can always buy a used abs actuator off of eBay (price ranges from $100-$400). I saw many sellers on eBay offering really cool warranties. I didn't look into the installation cost but heard it would be about another $400. I saw numerous videos on YouTube of guys explaining in detail the process of removing the bad abs and replacing a used unit bought and most of them reported spending about 3 to 4 hours to do it (guys who know nothing about cars) - if you have a garage and willing to do it yourself, its totally doable. The best thing to do is buy the new part from Toyota for $1400 and install it yourself - that way you don't have to worry about the unit failing later on (I saw many eBay reviewers reporting used units failure and the hassle they had to deal with).

My 2008 Toyota Prius ABS light came on about six weeks ago. my car is at 143,000 miles. I took the car to the dealership and they told me I needed a new brake actuator, $3200.00. So, I ordered a used part off of eBay. The actuator arrived today but it is the rounded black top. Is there a differences between rounded top and flat top on the black cylinder?

The picture on my order had a flat top and what showed up today was the rounded top. This part cost me $350.00 and no telling how much it is going to cost to put it in. I thought I read that the rounded top is the one that leaks and goes out around 140,000 to 150,000 miles. If you know about this part please leave a comment.

Does anyone know the 800 number I can call to see if my car have the extended warranty on the ABS Actuator?

Prius C Sport 1.4L

At first I took in my Prius to have new tires replaced, Front end alignment, and everything inspected. Worked perfectly for 2 weeks the the ABS light comes on. I was told how to reset it and then a week later the ABS and VSC lights come on. I was told its ok for now and we'll just reset it. So a week later they both intermittently come on and off for about a month. Then out of the clear blue and driving on a highway no less the vehicle shuts off, a loud alarm start going off, and I had to place the vehicle in neutral just to start in on a highway doing 65MPH. THANK YOU TOYOTA FOR MAKING SUCH A DANGEROUS VEHICLE!!!

How did I fix it. I had no other choice but to take it to a Toyota Dealer because all the other hick mechanics around me don't know nothing about electric vehicles. So this cost to me is $3000.00 for a BRAKE ACTUATOR then as soon as I get home the damn Maintenance Light comes on. Come to find out the 12V battery is dead too. F U TOYOTA!!! 9 year warranty on a 10 year plan and my stuff is not covered. BS

Brake actuator assembly failed while car was in driveway. Fortunately my son was not driving car on road at the time. Brake pedal goes all way to floor without much resistance. Various brake lights lit up on dash and constant buzzing sound. Tried driving to dealer but had to have it towed. Dealer said brake actuator assembly went bad and needs replaced at cost of $2900. Toyota warranty enhancement program expired 12/31/17 and Toyota told dealer they are not willing to assist in cost of repair even though I had previous problems with brake lights coming on in December 2016 when dealer stated at that time that the brake actuator assembly may be failing. I cannot believe that the brake actuator assembly failure issue is not a safety recall!

I have a 2008 Toyota Prius. It has 121,000 miles on it and I just recently had to change the front brake pads. Not bad! Recently every brake light ABS, VSC light came on after a few weeks of hearing a clicking noise under the hood when applying brakes. I had a clicking noise in one of the relay switches in the fuse box under the hood and replaced it. I still hear the annoying clicking noise randomly. It sounds like one of those gadgets you use at a New Years eve party that has a handle on it and makes a clicking noise as you swing it around in the air.

I have seen this as an issue on other forums and websites. I also came across an article that indicated there was a recall for the same problem in Japan. With so many issues regarding the brake actuator I believe there should be a recall paid for by Toyota to repair the problem. Otherwise the car has performed admirably and I have had no issues. Pretty good for a car with over 120,000 miles on it. But this problem is widespread and costs nearly $2300 to repair! OUCH!!

Come on Toyota. Step up to the plate and fix the braking problem. You've sold a zillion of these cars and have obviously made a few yen off of it. Keep your good name and do what is right to your loyal consumers.
