The ABS/VCS System on my 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD engages for no apparent reason on any surface at speeds between 40 and 70 MPH. The alarm sounds, warning lights on the dashboard go off, and the brakes are engaged pretty severely causing rapid deceleration. This usually happens on slight curves, intermittently every 100 miles or so but sometimes multiple times in one day on one drive.
There is no rhyme or reason for this to occur. It is definitely a dangerous situation because it has happens anywhere, including on the freeway with traffic and always causes rapid deceleration and the vehicle to veer, usually to the right. I see there are multiple reports of this problem but few known resolutions identified by Toyota repair shops or dealerships. Although there are multiple reports, it does not seem to have raised to a volume level where Toyota is forced to deal with it.
