I bought my '99 Toyota, Tacoma in 2007 from an individual, never noticed anything with the hood & top until 2001 when it started bubbling up the clear coat in small spots, then over time more & larger. My color is a dark green. And now 2018 the hood & top, the clear coat is 90 % gone so I have a dull green hood & top. Where it has peeled in spots has a lite white area where the clear coat bubble was.

Now here is what gets me, I see in town & on the road at least every third vehicle has this same problem and it's a mix of vehicles most all brands of vehicles that are at least three years old & older and majority like mine a dark color paint, but white color also==it's the clear coat.. Another thing I don't remember is lacquer & enamel never had this problem & once in awhile we saw vehicles with what they called orange peel, but the body shops said it was the prep steps in painting the vehicle, either humidity, overcast and did not use a paint booth to keep the temp all the same & of course exhaust fans,,, So why so many vehicles do you see all this clear coat peel, is it the paint, the prep, factory mixture incorrect (to thin ) not enough coats?? But somebody has an answer & the factory should stand behind their product, but all you hear from them or the dealers is that our fault the paint is peeling---Go Figure !!!

So I'll probably have a friend of mine repaint but I will not use a clear coat product, either enamel or lacquer but most likely enamel. He said the hood & top would be maybe $300-$400, which is cheaper than the $800 est. I was given. But again most people are not real happy about this situation..Thanks, Steve Whitlow (352) 339-1666..scwhitlow@gmail.com
