2006 Toyota Tacoma quad cab 4WD. On 02/10/2010 brakes failed to work and vehicle rear ended a car. No injuries. On dry pavement vehicle started to stop and ABS felt like they were deploying. Vehicle stopped slowing down and brakes failed at approximately 3mph and ran into rear of vehicle in front. Toyota says they can not replicate situation. Will it take a death to have NHTSA investigate and hold Toyota accountable.

Tacoma

  • 65,000 miles
We own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. In three different incidents when we have attempted to brake especially when we go over bumps the caused on freeways by big rigs the Tacoma will makes a noise, and it does not brake. It is not stopping, and we have to pump the brake in order to eventually brake. This especially occurred when we were exiting the freeway. We fear our safety, and called the Toyota dealer where we purchased the vehicle today. I spoke to a representative from the service department at 10:05 a.M. local time at 800-276-9699. She advised that since we did not purchase extended warranty they would have to charge me. I explained that we feared for our safety and since we are expecting a newborn in few months do not even want to use the car. In these economic times and due to the recent issues with Toyota we feel they should take a look at the vehicle without expecting to charge us. This is truly a safety issue, and can result in death or serious injury from an accident. We are hoping for some assistance since Toyota does not want to help in any way. I finally want to say I verified this problem as I drove back to this location and the same thing occurred, so I am hoping this can clearly raise the issue that there is a problem with these cars and Toyota once again.
