Tacoma Prerunner 4.0L V6
I was driving 65 MPH using cruise control.
I had to tap on the brakes to disengage the cruise to slow down.
I then passed the slower vehicle and simply hit resume on the cruise control and the truck sped up. At over 75 MPH the truck was still accelerating and so I tapped on the brakes again to disengage the cruise control again, but tapping the brake had no effect, the car kept speeding up. I then put the truck in neutral in hopes of coasting to a stop. My RPM's were at 5500 and my brakes didn't feel like they were working. I had to put the truck in gear due to traffic conditions and it SLAMMED into gear. I then found a safe spot to stop and before turning the truck off, I checked to see if I could see anything. I also checked the peddle again and it was pegged to the floor. I then turned off the engine and let the truck sit for a few minutes then started the truck again. The gas peddle was working and I could control the engine, so drove the car to a Toyota dealer that day. He told me that the floor mat was restricting the peddle.
Believe me, the first thing I checked when the problem started was check the peddle. If I had seen the mat in the way, this email would not be written. This was not a car mat issue, this was computer related. I have to wonder how many people have had a similar issue but ended up hitting something.
I've been driving for over 30 years and this was the scariest thing that ever happened to me behind the wheel. My wife won't drive the truck now
