My 2008 Tundra suddenly showed multiple dash lights when I started it. It ran rough, tried code reader on it, again multiple codes at once. Every item can't bad all at same time. The main problem was air pump failure, have a feeling it's associated with exhaust problem. Truck has been ticking since about a month after I bought it brand new, I just assumed that's the way it was since it quiets after warms up. Turns out manifold is cracked by the pump. Of course warranty is up. After reading online seems like a lot of people are having same problem. Have had it several times over the years for oil changes etc.. the dealership's know there is a problem and ignore them. I have two other Toyota cars and this is the first Toyota truck I've bought. Toyota we'll have a bigger problem when go back to buying the Chevy, Ford, Dodge. They were buying before they came out with full size Tundra. Get your act together Toyota or you will lose a lot more money and respect than what the recall will cost.

Reverse warning sensors that alert you that you are close to an object, sound when they get wet even though no object is nearby. This can be caused by rain, car wash, or simply driving on wet road after a rain. I had one replaced under warranty. Now another is failing and my truck is out of warranty. This can present a major safety issue in that owners would be used to the sensors going off in these conditions that they will dismiss it when possibly a real object, human or animal is present thus causing the "crying wolf" syndrome and possible injury.

When I started the car a bunch of lights illuminated and stayed on. The 4X4, stability control traction control, etc. It has happened 9 times over the last two years. Turning the car off then on would not make it go away. I had to disconnect battery and reconnect before it seems to be working right.

2008 Toyota Tundra double cab 5.7 4X4. Vsc/4hi/4lo/ABS/brake lights all start flashing. Have brought to dealer 3 times. Have 88,500 miles on truck. Warrenty runs out at 100,000. Dealer states they can not reproduce problem. Showed them online articles of same vehicle with same issues and how it was resolved. They refuse becuase there is no code.

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. While driving at approximately 15 mph through a puddle of water, service lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over and turned the vehicle off; upon restart, some of the service lights turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the computer system was replaced. The contact also stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that water was in the vacuum pump. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 9,197. The current mileage was 54,846.

Consumer states floor mat issues interfering with the operation of the accelerator and slow shifting problems the consumer stated he purchased a full set of all weather mats from the dealer designed for his truck and the mat still did not prevent the pedal from becoming trapped under the mat. The radio was replaced due to an internal short.

The contact owns 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that when the weather was humid, the check engine light illuminated. The contact stated that he was driving 5 mph when the check engine light came on. The check engine light would come on for a week at a time, then it would go off for a couple days, then back on 3 more times throughout the day. The owner took the vehicle to the dealership for testing. The dealer said that the computer was not showing a code so there was nothing that could be done. The failure mileage was 5,000. The current mileage was 13,5000. The consumer stated the transmission would hesitate during take off as well as during cold temperatures and the engine made a rattle sound. The radio would come on and change stations by itself. The consumer stated the accelerator pedal became stuck even before a recall was issued. The blower motor did not always work properly, the re-circulator would shut off by itself even if the button was held down for 3 seconds. Updated 04/20/10

I have a strong belief after my experience that Toyota has a defect with "speed sensor wires' and may know and is keeping it under wraps. Maybe because of safety problems or that it's contributing to a short circuit and unintended acceleration as professor gilbert had demonstrated on abc with what could happen with a short circuit in some Toyota vehicles. Someone from Toyota headquarters that was visiting my dealership personally investigated my 2008 Tundra's speed sensor wires which on one side had completely failed (snapped completely through) and was failing on the other side (partially broken through) at the same spot. Toyota chose to repair both but rather classified the repairs as a 'courtesy replacement' versus under the vehicles warranty. This I have a strong belief was done to keep it off the books back at headquarters and under wraps. This happened in Jan of 2010. Other indications this is wider spread but unrealized as to being a defect problem: 1) the dealership had to wait a long time because they had a hard time retrieving replacement parts, probably low on stock due to other replacements. 2) the local dealership had repaired another Tundra at the same location for the same problem right before mine, which I heard about through a contact. 3) internet search indications. Note: At first glance a torn or split wire may appear to have been caused by road debris or in the case of a vehicle crash if wire already was exhibited problems may be thought to have been caused by an impact if discovered after an impact. Because of these two reasons if this problem is a defect it may explain why it's not reported so readily. That's my fear. From my findings I'm convinced what is creating this defect is in design. The wire passes through a harness which is clamped down to the frame and the A-arm which pivots up and down tugging on the wire which is also near the hot manifold and after time the constant bending and tugging breaks down the speed sensor wire.
