The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Eos. While attempting to start the vehicle, the engine revved up, but failed to start. The contact had the vehicle towed to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the tension belt and timing chain detached, causing the engine pistons to slide. The engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and the dealer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
