This will be the THIRD time I've had to replace the radio in the car and this time it is out of warranty and out of extended warranty. Clearly there is a problem with the radio and yet they won't replace it for free and I think they should. I don't even use the cd player. I just use the radio and the aux connection. This will be the first and last VW I ever own.

I called the repair representative and explained that the CDC hardware error appeared one day and the radio/CD player etc ceased to work. I asked the rep if there was something I could do to re-boot it. He replied negatively and told me that I would need to bring it in. He seemed to be very familiar with the problem. In fact he told me that " It happens a lot and we don't know why."

He then went on to tell me that there was nothing else I could do. He then went on to tell me that " Its gonna cost you." He told me that I would have to bring it in and they would have to verify the problem. Then it would take 4-5 business days to get it in. I would have to pay for service at both visits. He told me that the radio would cost more than 500 bucks plus all the fees so he estimated about "1000 bucks or more."

A 1000 bucks or more?? This was quite shocking amount. I asked him, could it be something else? He told me " Oh no, not with that code." So then I asked if he could order it now since I was calling and save me a trip and a little money. He told me that " No, that's not our policy." I asked him if I could take it someplace else, he told me " Probably not it's volkswagen specific, only a dealer can do it."

The warranty expired in October 2012. This is the third major problem since the warranty expired. Costing me lots of bucks. I am actually starting to wonder if there was some way that VW rigged the car to break down when I didn't buy an extended warranty. Every thing is computerized now a days so I would not be surprised. Pretty lousy... guess VW isn't the same dependable brand it used to be...
