CarComplaints.com Notes: Digging through the long list of NHTSA complaints about a sudden loss of engine power and the high pressure fuel pump failing, it's never good to come across the "my car (with a cold engine) set itself on fire in the middle of the night" complaint.

Driving on the highway at 65 MPH and the EPC light comes on - car slows to 25 MPH. Once I get to safety, turn the car off for about 10 to 15 minutes, then turn it on again, the EPC light is off and it runs normal again - until the next time. Had it to the dealer and they say the code that it is throwing is a miscellaneous code and have no solution for us. Very dangerous when you are driving 65 or 70 MPH and suddenly your car drops to 25!! Very frustrating!

This problem started over a year ago, when the car would rev up on it's own, while in park. It would also stall while driving or sitting at a light. My Jetta has been in the shop over 10 times in the last year for this same problem. I have been told numerous things, such as it's a camshaft adjuster, map sensor, combi valve, cam chain tensioner, coil with plugs, cam acutator, pin on the engine harness.......It is in the shop again as of last Thursday, after picking it up on Wednesday. RIDICULOUS!!! I have been told that VW reps have looked at it as well, which is really troubling! After reading these other folks' stories, I felt I needed to report mine as well. Luckily, I have an extended warranty, and all but $100 diagnostic fee has been covered, but that warranty will expire very soon. I will never buy another VW product. This is my first and LAST!!!!!!
