Bought brand new VW Jetta from dealer with 8 miles on odometer. Several years later, the tire pressure light started to go on. Had it looked at, no issue ever found. The the tire light would go on, followed by all the dash lights and car would die. Car has under 36,000 miles. Has been to two separate dealers and neither able to replicate the problem. Connecting to the car's computer to check status not helpful either. Of course, it is no longer under warranty. Even when it was, the dealers were not able to identify any specific problem. It was recently discovered that the vehicle had an after market tracking device. We knew nothing about it but in discussing with another dealer, we were told these items are often installed by the dealers to keep track of inventory. They apparently try to sell them when you purchase the car but we were never informed such a device was on the vehicle. Not sure how this relates to the electrical function anyway, and why would the car work well for the first three years anyway? It was also suggested it could be a bad module but again no warranty. The latest suggestion is to replace the harness. I still wonder if it's related to faulty wiring or a short. VW consumer affairs not very concerned about the safety issue of the car losing power while it's being driven. Given the fraud the auto manuacturer committed, it is unsettling that the company is not more willing to work with their customers and be responsible for issues that clearly are related to manuacturers defects. I wonder if other VW Jetta owners experienced similar failures and if they were able to have the problem correctly diagnosed and fixed.

throttle crack, loss compression

This issue happen to most of the Jetta. The service advisor told me that they facing engine compression issue and I am not the only 1 or the 1st one. VW never do any recall action to fix the problem whereas just waiting those cars problem then send in. It is really irresponsible action where it is cheating since the engine not fit to use for long term.

My car has suddenly started losing all power, it seems to be getting worse. Yesterday within a 5 minutes period, it lost all power 3 times. It seems to happeninmostly when slowing down, just suddenly loses all power including lights. No warning signals are letting me know anything is getting ready to happen.

Jetta SE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

BUYER BEWARE: I leased a 2011 Jetta SE with the intention of buying it once the lease expired. I was VERY happy with the car... loved it. A month before my lease was up the car stalled out as I was driving approx 30 mph downhill. I was unable to control the car -- brakes and steering wheel locked. It was very scary because there were no warning signs. Just after this happened, the alternator light turned on and I took the car to the dealer. They "fixed" the car and gave me a long, confusing explanation of what the problem was. I was also told that the car was not under warranty (even though it was a leased car) and I had to pay $500 to have it fixed.

Two weeks later I'm vacationing 200 miles away driving home on the highway and the car stalls out again. I was lucky to be stuck in traffic because had it happened 15 minutes earlier while traveling 60mph in the middle lane, it could have been very dangerous.

I was faced with the choice to turn in the car, but I consider myself lucky that I realized what a seriously flawed car this was before buying it. I have done the research and it seems that this is a common problem with the 2011 Jetta. Volkswagen does not want to take any responsibility for this problem. Many people are frustrated just like I am. I would NOT NOT NOT recommend buying this car. And if you have this car and are experiencing these problems I would get rid of it, because it's not going to get fixed by VW. My car is sitting at the certified pre-owned car lot. Someone is going to buy it thinking it's a nice, clean car with low mileage. I feel sorry for this person because they don't know what they're getting themselves into.

Jetta 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

My car's battery light comes on when I go between 65 and 70 mph. If I don't slow down under 60, in about 20 minutes all of the sensor lights come on.....abs, tires, cruise control, check fluids, radio shuts off, and a couple more that we haven't figured out. The car loses power, I then have to make a complete stop no matter where I am, mostly the freeway. Once I stop, the lights go out and I'm back on the road. A very scary situation when you're all the way in the left lane. I asked the dealer to check the problem out, they never found anything and it's gotten worse.

Jetta S 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,400 miles

I took the car in for the EPC code and the yellow engine light. the car lost power and vibrated. the dealer initially could not find the problem after charging me $130 for diagnostics. Problems continued and then they replaced coil and spark plugs - cost 550. This car only has 42 months and is out of warranty. This s/b a VW recall - I am really unhappy with VW.
