Just as a few others have reported, the wipers do not work in cold weather, this is surprising to me because my 1998 Ranger's wiper blades never let me down, so the fact that a 2011 Jetta has unusable wipers during the cold months until they warm up is not acceptable behavior. I shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for a basic feature that should always work. This seems like a defect to me.

I live in Northern Alberta. we get snow and its cold in winter. wipers do not work past -15C. I have a 35km drive one way to work in all types of weather. Can't trust the wipers so I have had to park car. Dealership is 300kms away and do not want to risk dying trying to get my car there to show them in the winter and cold the wipers do not work. They work if they are warmed up in heated garage or car wash. Soon as its cold they stop again. VW said they will look at changing wiper motor, staring at $300 for part plus labor! No warranty. Should be recalled as this is a serious safety issue. So disappointed in VW. Expected better quality from German engineering. Going back to Japanese cars as soon as I can.

Who wants a car with no wipers in bad weather? Certainly not the manufacturers and definitely not the owners who paid hard earned money for a working new automobile. Since this problem is intermittent, there has been no effort on anyone's part to repair it. It is a highly dangerous and definitely a liability for Volkswagen Corporation and the Owner also. I suggest VW issue a recall immediately on all wiper problems for 2011 VW Jetta Diesels and any others with a similar problem. Not something that the owner wants to pay six hundred dollars for a part and another two or three hundred for a repair bill. All repairs on VW's are too expensive for the average consumer. Stay away unless you want to pay out the Wazoo for repairs on problems you almost never have with American or Japanese Automobiles.
