The vehicle will randomly shut off while driving or parked. It has happened in traffic and occurs most often when decelerating, idling, or parked. Obviously, with the engine off, power steering and brakes aren't available.

Ignition switch. My ignition switch is going out, it has become hard for me to turn on and turn off my car. I know there have been class action lawsuits involving other automotive manufacturers and this needs to be a recall. Its dangerous for me to operate my vehicle.

Takata recall. I have a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta gli edition 30 w/navigation. My airbag light came on while I was driving that's right in motion. The same day my steering wheel started clicking when I turned it to the left one day. I went to use my horn and it wouldn't work. Then noticed all of my all the buttons on my steering wheel were not working either. The steering wheel buttons are the controls for the navigation settings, time, phone. There isn't a way to change setting using the console buttons. The steering wheel controls are the hub of setting controls. I can not use my horn for anything. 18 wheelers swaying, someone not paying attention I can not use my horn for any of these reasons. Every time I get in my car I am without an airbag. I went online to do some research. I found a recall for the 2014 Jetta I printed out the recall # and took it to the dealership and said this recall and the clicking on my steering wheel match. Can you fix this here? the representative then told me that he was sorry the recall did not include the gli 30 year anniversary edition Jetta. The shop would not order the part without a diagnostic which cost me $120.88. Once the diagnostic was complete I received a call "MA'am you are correct the clock spring is what needs to be replaced and the part is $290.07 and labor $316.88 with tax a total of $682.33 even though everything matched the recall. Because this recall isn't expanded and doesn't include the correct cars. I have had to pay $803.21. I am out safely driving with a airbag or the safety of a horn. This recall does not include all cars affected.

The horn on my 14' VW Jetta SE has a mind of its own. It will work long enough for me to blow the horn at somebody (sometimes) and then not work again for 2-14 days.

Multiple ignition coils failed. This happened while in motion. Wife stranded on busy freeway. Failing is bad enough. They are made primarily of rubber and are melted to the spark plug and cannot be removed by normal means.

Jetta

  • 30,000 miles
Key gets stuck in the ignition, in the on position, repeatedly, so you can't turn off the engine. Various "band aid fixes" posted online by similar sufferers of this problem, such as putting it in drive then in park repeatedly, or applying strong inward pressure when turning the key only "help" intermittently. Finally nothing worked, and had to leave it in park, idling and unlocked while waiting for a locksmith/mechanic to come remove the ignition, in order to be able to turn the engine off. This poses a significant hazard, not mechanically, but for theft, in an emergency, or just going about the day. The vehicle sat at idle for several hours before the locksmith could come. This is a known issue with the Jetta, and no recall has been issued.

Ignition key gets stuck in the on position and cannot turn the car off. It also sticks when off and cannot get the car started. In a web search I find that this is a common problem. The cost to replace is ~$800 this is a repeated problem and happens on an almost daily basis. VW claims there is no recall. In my opinion, this is a major safety issue and should have a recall.

Heating for car cabin. My car is a 2014 and this year in the middle of winter in Chicago. My heater gave out. I have no heat. There is a recall for the same default part on the VW passat tdi but not for the VW Jetta tdi, even thought the problem and the solution are the exact same.

Jetta

  • 25,000 miles
Vehicle in motion, one occurrence on city street w/braking and one occurrence on highway, no braking with large bump, no turns, all 4 door locks unlocked simultaneously and doors opened. Dealer could not find fault codes or have this happen when they drove the car. VW position is that "this is not possible". no repairs were made. There is no documentation & there is no proof, but it did happen twice since car was purchased new in June 2014.

My Jetta has been leaking transmission fluid. I was searching to see what gear oil is needed for my car as I would like to fill it back up to the appropriate level and a recall showed up about an O-ring between the transmission and the oil cooler. My car was not listed in this recall, however my car is still leaking transmission fluid at this time. On another subject my fuel pump seems to run for awhile after I shut the car off. I took it to a VW dealership and they stated it was fine. Still a bit of a worry as sometimes it runs for up to 3 minutes after.
