the dsg trans. hesitates on acceleration. told this is norm

I was told by the dealer that this is normal. That's how the transmission works. I am afraid to make a left turn in front of oncoming vehicles. I push down on the accelerator and the car revs up but goes nowhere fast. I'm going five miles an hour and then all of a sudden the car takes off. Someone suggested it was turbo lag. I can feel the transmission shake and search for a gear. If I don't make a complete stop it takes a few seconds before the car will go.
