Purchased used in 2022 with over 100k. After 5 months of ownership low oil light came on after road trip (down 1 qt) now I check weekly and notice it seems to burn 1/2 qt every 2 weeks. No noticeable leaks anywhere, nothing at the exhaust, mentioned this to the dealer after being serviced for a suspension repair and was told “it’s normal for these engines to burn oil”. Other than having to top off the oil frequently, the vehicle runs great and is fun to drive.

Jetta TSI 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission

The car is consuming oil within the 5k oil change time. It loses about a quart of oil during the time from the first oil change to the next. I have taken it to 3 mechanics all saying that there was a lawsuit against VW and Audi for this issue. I found the case once but have not been able to locate it since. All 3 mechanics said that the engine would have to be replaced because VW/Audi mismilled the pistons. They did not do a recall but only listed it as a notification. We never received any notification regarding this issue.
