poor acceleration stalling engine light

was driving to work one day and my 08 passat started acting funny (fuel mileage jumping around, poor acceleration) made it the rest of the way to work and on the way home stopped, had the code read and "bad news" the guy said, low fuel pressure, and with these cars usually means lots of problems. limped the car home pulled the fuel pump off, the person who read the code said very common problem with these cars and told me the first step, the cam follower was almost half gone and the rod and spring that made the pump work was also worn. had the car towed to the dealership for a quote. got a call a couple days later with more bad news. i was told that an oil light had surely come on and the motor was full of metal and i would need a new motor at a cost of 6000 for just the motor and thousands more to install it. i told the mechanic that i had gotten no oil light the car was running till i turned it off and removed the fuel pump and was told it was still full of metal and was no good. i then asked him, doesn't all motors have some metal in them from start up's and normal wear? he answered well yes a little but with that amount of the parts gone i would be throwing money away fixing it, i thought he was probably right and said i will think about it and call back. thought, researched, asked friends, and thought the metal could only be a couple places and since it was still running may have gotten lucky. spoke with the mechanic let him know i would try to save it. to make a very long and painful story short every suggestion was met with pessimism. wouldn't proceed without pulling pan to see how much metal and so on and so on, but they have to warranty their work, so should of just picked it back up in the beginning but liked the car and wanted it fixed so i didn't. wanted them to just replace the cam (cam follower and fuel pump rod wore a slight groove in the cam lobe) so since there wasn't much metal in the pan and no oil light they said they would go ahead and put a cam in it but then came another long back and forth story that ended with another call stating that after tearing the motor to replace the cam the head was too worn and unless it was replaced, for almost as much cost as changing motor, they would not put the cam in it. i finally gave up so after thousands and thousands of dollars a friend drug my car home on his trailer exactly the same as it was when i had it towed up there. and since i had no money left (i had bought the car with the money everyone from work put together for my expenses after i had a terrible accident) it sat in the driveway for months. vw wouldnt help with ANYTHING even with the car being at the dealership two months before for something else and didnt bother to mention a word about a known, to them, faulty part when it could of saved my car and money! My only hope is that karma is real ! unfortunetly just getting started many other problems up to the newest 2000 dollar PART
