problem #2

Dec 102020

Passat TSI 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 66,797 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

The first time the car was warming up on the driveway, and it started to accelerate on its own and stopped, I then started again, and it was okay. Today while I was driving it started to shake and then shut off. So I don't know what it will be.

Passat SE 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 21,295 miles

Around 21,280 miles will my wife was driving around town and the car just shut off without warning. Not thinking anything of it she restarted the car and continued her drive. When it happened again later that day, she had it towed to dealer who kept it for about a week. I even let one of there tech's drive it home over night (about 10 miles) thinking there would be a better chance of it happening again and for them to see. Dealer reported that they could not reproduce the problem. Brought the car home. Went away for the holiday weekend (in my other vehicle).

The day after we returned my wife took Passat out to do some errands when the car stalled on her again I then took the car out for about an hour on two trips and couldn't get it to stall. The fact that this problem is so erratic is frustrating. My wife drives the car to from Pa to Connecticut about twice a month (500 miles up and back) on major highways. Not knowing when this is just going to shut down and lose the ability to stop or steer is frightening. After some research it seems to be a problem in other VW models as well and has been happening for a number of years. Do we wait until there are a certain number of deaths for a recall a la GM ignition problems.
