I have a 2011 Volkswagen Routan minivan. The ignition switch is not working, the car doesn't start at all so I call the VW. They said there is no recalls for my minivan even though it is the same part that it was recalled 2 years before.

I don't think it's fair that VW doesn't want to fix something just because is a year since new, when they know they use the same defective parts, even in the dodge caravans.

So I absolutely love my van but the starting issue is a royal PAIN. Had mechanic who found wire under the fuse relay panel which had a bare wire going to relay, he repaired that and it has started good up until April of 2020. Now it has started the problem again and I am fed up with trying to contact VW over the TIPM. Has anyone else had any GOOD results.??.

Car won't start. Towed the Pep Boy's. Claim it could be the starter going bad and should wait it out to make sure before replace.

I've done some research and noted same problem with this car and it may be the TIPM system. Volkswagen will not do a recall so far.

Recall on Chrysler models exists, but I did not hear about the VW ,being a Chrysler product. I need assistance in recovering money since this was not on a recall list for a VW. VW owners should have been notified and had their vehicles recalled for the faulty tipm.

Chrysler issued a recall but VW has not. This is an ongoing problem and will cost a lot of money to fix.

Routan SE 3.2L

After investigating my car's issues for over a week after I reported that my 2011 VW Routan would not turn over once started, they told me I need a new fuel pump. It was replaced for $1300. When I went to pickup my van after it was supposedly fixed, it wouldn't start. So after three more days of them trying to figure out what was going on, they informed me that I needed at TIPM to the cost of another $1300. Plus, the faulty TIPM was the cause of me needing another fuel pump. I've been reading about all how Chrysler has acknowledged these TIPM issues, but not Volkswagen. It is terribly frustrating to have car with less than 100,000 miles with such major issues. I needed a new alternator last year and after getting new rotors last year, I will need them again this year. This car that was so perfect when I purchased it three year ago is turning into my worst nightmare.

The van didn't start randomly. It will turn over, make one click, then nothing. No cranky, light ac radio will be on. Replaced with new battery and new starter, cleaned up battery terminal connection and make sure it is good, and it still the same. Sent to dealer and it said it is the transmission range sensor or the neutral switch problem. We will see...

Routan 6 C

Vehicle would not start until I stepped on the gas. Dealer said it was fuel injector. I asked for them to check the TIPM and I was told that it was the first thing they checked and it was fine. Definitely the fuel pump. 3 days later they called and said that it was ready and that it wasn't the fuel pump it was the TIPM!

Really annoyed at the fact that Volkswagen will not honor the recall that Chrysler has out there for the Grand Caravan and Town and Country's of the same same year. After speaking with Volkswagen customer service, I personally feel that they refuse to take accountability of this issue, considering it took a class action lawsuit for Chrysler to wake up, I also feel that since the end of 2014 marked the end of the Routan, Volkswagen is sweeping any issues it hears of under the rug. I also told Volkswagen that after this little conversation, I will never buy another Volkswagen again as they do not stand behind their product when there are infrastructure problems with the vehicle and just expect people to pay for the repair and shut up. I guess it will take someone getting killed in one of these vehicles when a TIPM Fails on a busy highway and your van stalls out at 80+ MPH.

Volkswagen, Just because Chrysler built the vehicle doesn't mean you ignore the issue at hand, Chrysler may have built it, but it still bears your badges!

Update from Oct 1, 2015: I will be starting a petition on change.org to push Volkswagen to recall these vehicles for the Tipm as this seriously needs to be addressed. Especially after the last scandal they are involved in with the diesels. I am also asking FCA to possibly intervene since they built the vehicles for VW and at least push on VW to recall the vehicles....

Update from Oct 24, 2015: I have started a complaint on change.org for the Tipm modules https://www.change.org/p/matthias-mueller-volkswagen-of-america-volkswagen-of-america-recall-the-routan-due-to-a-major-safety-issue
