My mother was driving her 2004 Toyota Scion Xb on her way to church. Turned onto baton chapel rd. Traveling at 40 mph, started slowing down due to the fact that she was approaching a light where she would have made her turn, and ended up rear ending the vehicle in front of he. At the time of the accident the driver side airbag did not deploy, and the seatbelt she was wearing at the time did not hold her back. As a result she ended up hitting the steering wheel and suffering from costochondritis/ chest trauma which was confirmed by emergency staff once she arrived at the hospital.

Front end collision with no air bag deployment. 2004 Scion was traveling at approximately 40 mph and rear ended a pick up truck; damaging the Scion and pick up truck.the Scion had two feet of drivers side intrusion and the passenger side had 1-1/2 feet of intrusion. The Scion had a star to the windshield and an injured driver, which could have been avoided if airbag deployment happened. The damage to the Scion caused major front end damage exposing the engine and hitting damaging and exposing the air bag sensors. This vehicle was air bag equiped and airbags, which failed to opperate. The resulting failure caused the driver to sustain injuries to his head and his face causing an open wounds and lacerations that were sutured in a emergency room were driver was evaluated by a emergency room physician.there was nothing done to correct the failure, the driver notifed Toyota motor company. Toyota inspected the vehicle and stated that since it was not a true head on collision the air bag will not deploy. The insurance company totaled the vehicle and decribed it as a total loss and unable to be repaired.
