A 40 mph offset frontal crash test was performed on a 2004 Suzuki Verona at the institute's vehicle research center. After the crash test, it was apparent the driver front air bag failed to deploy properly. The air bag only partially inflated and provided little protection for the dummy's head. Once the dummy's forward momentum had stopped, the flat airbag began to rapidly inflate, which propelled the dummy rearward until it contacted the B-pillar.
