I could do with some technical advice regarding a problem I've had with my car. A few months ago I snapped the timing belt and got a new one fitted. After a while it started stalling at idle. Tool it to the garage who fitted a load of unnecessary parts (plugs, hoses, leads, rotor arm, distributed cap) but they managed to fix the problem. Then after a short while the problem returned. The car wouldn't start and wouldn't go. I got it towed to a different garage who said that the timing belt tensioners hadn't been adjusted correctly and the new belt had jumped teeth and was about to snap. They also stated that there was no pressure in three of the valves. They said they would skim the head and when they phoned again it was to tell me that the car was misfiring and needed new leads. Then they phoned to say the timing belt was ready to snap (again) and that it needed a new camshaft. He stated that one of the lobes on the camshaft was blue and that it wasn't lifting the rocker cover or getting oil. He says it will cost £600 to this far and wanted £300 cash off me today to buy parts. I'm still not being told what is the source of the problem and I'm not even sure they skimmed the head or replaced any valves. Can someone advise whether the statements seem honest or whether this is just a scam.
